Technical Superintendent for Aalborg-based Shipping Company
Do you want to manage a fleet of chemical Tankers? And do you want to coordinate maintenance and repairs of vessels? Keeping our vessels functional is an important task and great responsibility – and it is crucial for our business. Operating in northern Europe, Alba Tankers is an international shipping company with over 200 employees. We manage 9 Chemical tankers ranging in size from 3,500 DWT to 11,500 DWT trading with Oil and chemicals products. In the past two years, we have expanded our fleet from five to nine vessels. This is why we need an additional Technical Superintendent to assist our technical team at our main office in Aalborg.
Maintenance and operations
A successful Technical Superintendent ensures all our vessels are operated 24/7/365 with minimum of down time and that the vessels comply with all statutory and customer requirements. This includes vessel certification and surveys for class, flag, and international requirements. We have all necessary systems in place that help us keep track of onboard maintenance and costs.
When it comes to maintenance, you always think ahead. You know when new national and international regulations take effect and prepare vessels for compliance. In general, preventive maintenance is key.
Your duties will include:
- Timely and sufficient technical support for the vessels via e-mail and phone
- Assisting with ordering spare parts
- Critical spare part inventory management
- Monitoring the quality of all service providers
- Coordinating maintenance check-ups and working with our planned maintenance system
- Visiting vessels and preparing inspection reports
- Planning and coordinating inspection and dry docking of the vessels
- Approving invoices and conducting cost control for technical issues
- Handling insurance claims
- Being part of the team making assessments of individual vessels and their management
- Preparing reports about budget performance, consumption and emission and the state of repair for both for the vessels and the management
Technical management
You will make use of your project management and coordination skills to ensure that the necessary repairs and check-ups are completed correctly and on time. This is important as safety is one of your main and primary responsibilities.
When coordinating maintenance and repair projects, you will be communicating with colleagues and business partners from different backgrounds and countries, for instance when you prepare a vessel for dry-docking or liaise with the Charterers, Flag State and Port State controls. Regarding both the technical and the financial aspects, you know how to communicate clearly and have good negotiation skills.
To ensure this, you must be fluent in English, verbal and written, at a high technical level, as not all colleagues in the office, speak Danish. There will be around 30-40 travel days per year, mainly as a part of overseeing and coordinating projects. This will mostly be in the Northern European area.
In your position, you will refer to CEO/Fleet Manager Henrik Holst Pedersen.
Your knowledge and experience
You have the necessary experience and knowledge from the maritime, offshore, or potentially the offshore windmill industry. You do not need to know everything from the beginning. We are an office with a flat structure, and we all assist each other as needed. The most important thing is that you have experience with repair and maintenance of machinery and with how things work at sea. You have a degree in Technology Management, Marine Engineering, or Engineering.
