Strategy and Operations Manager, Cell Therapy R&D
Do you want to impact the strategic direction and execution of Cell Therapy at Novo Nordisk? Are you passionate about managing and handling the operations of a complex business? Do you want to play an important part in pioneering life changing therapies for patients with serious chronic diseases? Are you excited about working with colleagues driven by purpose and passion? If so, we offer an exciting opportunity to join as Strategy and Operations Manager in the Cell Therapy Strategy and Operations team.
About the department
Cell Therapy Strategy & Operations is a small and dynamic team, responsible for shaping Novo Nordisk Cell Therapy strategy and securing operational excellence by working across the full value chain from early research to commercialisation. The team is responsible for three main areas: 1) strategy development and operational execution, 2) portfolio management and 3) communications. In addition, the team facilitates Cell Therapy governance body, including timely project reporting and communication to our important stakeholders within as well as outside Novo Nordisk. The Cell Therapy R&D unit has grown rapidly over the past few years, and with continued growth plans our team is working to define and implement operational processes/structures to support fast decision-making and continued innovation. The Cell Therapy Strategy and Operations team plays a key role in unleashing the potential of our great people through fit-for-purpose solutions balancing structure and flexibility. You will be working in an environment that values professionalism, high execution standards and a keen eye on providing the pragmatism to provide practical solutions that make a real difference.
The position
As a Strategy and Operations Manager your main responsibility is to 1) drive strategic projects setting the strategic direction for the unit and 2) ensure that operational processes are in place to secure successful execution of our project portfolio. This includes - but is not limited to: portfolio prioritisation, portfolio and project management, digitalisation/automation strategies and resource allocation processes. In the role you will work closely together with the Cell Therapy Leadership team, Line of Business, Global Project Teams and other colleagues across the organisation. You will be part of identifying challenges and improvement areas, and play an advisory role in addressing them, ensuring the solutions make a real difference when being implemented. The Strategy & Operations team reports to the Head of Cell Therapy R&D (CVP), which gives a great opportunity for high visibility projects and exposure to senior leadership
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a balanced profile of scientific and business competencies combined with the ability to effectively communicate and work across the full R&D value chain. In addition, the ideal candidate has strong project/resource management skills and is used to working on a broad set of projects ranging from strategy to business planning. We encourage candidates with a variety of backgrounds to apply, having pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry expertise, or experience with resource forecasting and allocation management is an advantage but not a requirement.
As a person, you are pragmatic, open-minded, self-driving and a good communicator by nature. You have a high level of energy that drives you and inspires your colleagues. You thrive in a changing, fast-paced and dynamic work environment, and in a job that requires you to take initiatives and think out of the box when challenges occur. You are a true team-player who enjoys working in close collaboration with colleagues from various functions, and thrives in a job where variation is the norm and where your responsibilities will be broad. You enjoy finding practical solutions to operational challenges, are comfortable handling conflicting interests and complexity, and have the attitude to experiment and try things out.
We set high expectations, but we also have a high level of trust in you and your skillset; you will be given space to grow and make an impact and you will be supported by our fantastic colleagues who are just as passionate as you are.
About the Cell Therapy R&D unit
In Cell Therapy R&D, our mission is to improve the lives of patients suffering from serious chronic diseases through innovative cell therapies. We want to be an industry leader in this rapidly developing and highly complex area, which has the potential to address unmet medical needs and even halt or reverse the progression of serious chronic diseases.
As a dedicated Transformational Research Unit (TRU) since late 2018, we have a culture characterised by a high level of independence, change and flexibility. This means we can combine the speed and agility of a small organisation with the heritage and capabilities of a major pharma company. We cover the full pharmaceutical value chain, from research to commercial, including a GMP manufacturing site in Fremont (California), working in close collaboration with leading international scientists as well as colleagues across Novo Nordisk.
Novo Nordisk has been active in stem cell research for over 20 years in type 1 diabetes and it’s our ambition to defeat T1D. Our portfolio has since expanded to many disease areas and indications, and we are working towards maturing and expanding our platforms and capabilities across a number of serious chronic diseases.
Working at Novo Nordisk
At Novo Nordisk, your skills, dedication, and ambition help us change lives for the better. In exchange, we offer you an opportunity to work with extraordinary talent and benefit from a range of possibilities for professional and personal development.
