The position Novo Nordisk A/S is offering a three-year industrial PhD position in collaboration with Department of Pharmacy at University of Copenhagen. The project will focus on developing analytical tools to study how pharmaceutically relevant peptides interact with bacterial endotoxin to form peptide-endotoxin complexes. The goal is to unravel the underlaying pathways and understand how pharmaceutical excipient either increase or decrease the complexation propensity and, importantly, reverse the association. You will be trained in different versions of the limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) assay, which is the bioassay the project is focused on optimising. To do so, you will be applying a vast battery of biophysical techniques (e.g. NMR, SAXS/DLS and FIDA) and you will investigate how both various physical stress conditions (e.g. heating/freezing, sonication, shaking) and excipients (e.g. detergents, salts, acid/base) affect the peptide-endotoxin equilibria. Qualifications As an applicant you must have:
  • Obtained a Master´s degree in biophysics, (bio-)chemistry, pharmaceutical s ciences or related areas prior to the starting date
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills
  • Interest in working at the interface between different scientific disciplines
  • Danish working permit

    It will help your application if you have experience with one or more of the subjects below
  • Experience with biophysical techniques such as NMR , DSC , DLS , FIDA or ITC
  • Experience with studying protein structure and/or interactions
  • Experience with ELISA or with similar bioassays
  • Experience with data analysis in Python or Matlab
