Director/Head of the Project Leadership Excellence Team Development Portfolio & Project Management, a part of the Development EVP area. The Development EVP area is responsible for driving innovative pharmaceutical drug and device development worldwide from phase 1 to product launch, and to ensure continued development through life cycle management. We work in a project-centric organisation, where cross-functional global project teams (GPTs) drive the development with focus on delivering viable products that make a difference to patients and ultimately benefit society. Our VP area is a staff function to the Development EVP, and part of the Development Strategy, Portfolio, External Innovation and Digitalisation CVP unit. It consists of professionals and specialists with backgrounds in science, business, and finance. The Project Leadership Excellence team is responsible for strategic sparring and support to the GPTs and to the Project Vice Presidents (PVPs) chairing the GPTs. This includes facilitating and driving cross-functional acceleration and simplification projects, workshops, and trainings, reviewing, and providing sparring to strategic development project documents (PDPs) and plans, as well as promoting knowledge exchange between projects and PVPs and across the value chain. In 2023, the team will drive and co-create our PVP/GPT future capability building initiative through a Leadership curriculum. The focus will be on implementing more efficient development, launch, and submission plans through the Fit-4-Take-off initiative, 5D focus and successful implementation of an Integrated Treatment Solution mindset across Development and the project organisation. The Position As head of the Project Leadership Excellence department, you will be leading a team ensuring product development excellence through collaboration and support to the project organisation and to governance (PDComm/PDCouncil), as well as providing strategic challenge and support to development projects. This includes providing challenge and sparring to PVPs, GPTs, and senior level colleagues in the preparation and use of the strategic product development plans and the Target Product Profiles. You will oversee daily operations of the team by directing staff and by managing organisational design, structure, talent development and training. You will clarify direction and strategy for the team, ensure clear target setting and strong execution as well as scalability of recommended solutions and processes across the project organisation. You will also be accountable for and considerate of the impact our guidance and initiatives will have on the PDComm portfolio and on other EVP/SVP areas of the organisation. As head of the department, you will ensure close integration and collaboration with the Development Portfolio Analysis & Insights team, the functions across the CVP area, CDD SVP and between the project organisation/GPTs and our governance boards. The team strives to be trusted advisors to our stakeholders, why a strong focus on stakeholder management is essential. The position requires collaboration and alignment with stakeholders across EVP/SVP and CVP functions and organisational levels. We are a growing department with two additional team members to be hired in 2023, in an evolving EVP area, and you will have the opportunity to impact and develop the role together with the VP of Development Portfolio & Project Management and the rest of the function. Qualifications You have a Master´s degree, or higher academic degree, in a relevant field combined with minimum 3 years of project management experience. You have a solid understanding of and experience from pharmaceutical development processes, including strategic development planning and execution. Managerial experience is preferred, but not a requirement. In addition, you have: Excellent project management skills and a proven track record of driving complex projects of a strategic nature. Experience in collaborating successfully with many different stakeholders across functions and at different organisational levels, including senior level management. Leadership type of experience from driving pharmaceutical product development through Global Project Teams, or other related cross-functional pharmaceutical development teams. Strong communication skills and capable of effectively structuring material to allow easy decision making Good collaborator and dedicated team player, where the focus is on directing and supporting others. Finally, you have a positive “can-do” attitude and thrive in a complex and dynamic environment. You are proactive, ambitious, persistent with a high degree of independency and drive and like to challenge status quo and own development of new innovative solutions to the challenges we meet.
