My name is Pernille Krogh-Meyer and I am the Chief Information Officer for Svitzer. An exciting opportunity to join my leadership team in our Technology organization is now open and I am looking for someone to head up our Data Platform function.

As Head of Data Platform, you will be leading a diverse team of app. 10 people with capabilities across data engineering, data science, product owner for data products and a BI Delivery Manager (4 Svitzer employees and 6 people from our partner in Portugal). The team is responsible for driving forward data-driven decision making by delivering data solutions, insights and products for internal optimization of our core business as well as data products with the potential to go to market as a differentiator for Svitzer in the future.

Svitzer is a towage company, which means we help our customers maneuver their larger ships safely and timely in and out of port. We operate globally. Most of our business is to support container vessels, cargo ships, cruise ships and navy vessels but we also attend to emergencies like vessels being adrift or offshore fires.

Technology as a strong partner to different business areas is key in making the operations run efficiently and to innovate the future of Svitzer, and especially your team working with data is a key enabler for our strategy. In particular, our ambitious goal to decarbonize our operations fully over the next decade. We are on an exciting journey shaping the future of Technology in Svitzer and defining our role in innovating the industry.

Key responsibilities


  • Leading the Data Platform team and proactively driving team engagement

  • Manage team capacity as well as mix of internal employees and external partners

  • Empower, support, and develop the team with coaching and opportunities for growth

  • Define the future data strategy of Svitzer, shaping how technology will enable Svitzer’s corporate data and digital future

  • Set overall team priorities in order to drive execution

  • against the strategy while also managing near team stakeholder and product needs

  • Define and collaborate on team ways of working to ensure a strong engineering and productive working culture

  • Overall accountability for the Svitzer data platform technology, its reliability, performance, and cost

  • Being part of and contribute to the Svitzer Technology Leadership team


We are looking for someone who:


  • Has been working in a setup with a data platform serving multiple products

  • Is a strong leader who has established and led a data team serving multiple products from an engineering and data science perspective

  • Understands the technology and how to apply it to gain most value out of data, machine learning and advanced analytics and hence can spar with the team on same topics

  • Is driven by value creation and can use this for prioritizations between products on the data platform

  • Has experience with vendor management – delivering via near-shore sourced teams from selected vendors

  • Has experience in driving digital data products from idea to a commercial product to be sold in the market

  • Has a pragmatic mindset with the ability to move up and down between strategic, tactical and also be a strong executor him/herself – we have an entrepreneurial spirit valuing head, heart and hands together

  • Holds superior stakeholder management and communication skills and can easily translate complex technology and data topics to understandable language at all levels in the organization

  • Has a collaborative working style both within the Technology leadership team and across Svitzer


Experience working with big data, data streaming and IoT as well as experience with applying machine learning and building products using machine learning and data science is an advantage.
