Group Financial Controller

You may be our new colleague for a Group Financial Controller role in our Group Finance team.

Svitzer is looking for a Group Financial Controller to join a team of 15+ engaged and professional finance colleagues in our headquarters in Copenhagen. The Global Reporting and Controlling Team monitors and controls finance and financial reporting for approx. 4,400 employees and 440 vessels operating worldwide to safely service more than 150 ports and terminals across the globe.

Who we are

Svitzer is a leading Global Towage Operator providing towage and sustainable marine solutions to make ports and terminals safer, more efficient and more climate friendly. We have customers in 30+ countries across four Regions: Australia, AMEA, Europe and America.

In recent years, we have grown through new contracts and acquisitions, and growing continues to be a focus. At the same time, we are implementing our new Strategy, which prioritises Decarbonization and Technology. However, our standard marine services remain critical to us.

We operate globally 24/7, which means that things rarely stand still. However, we are good at manoeuvring being busy, as we enjoy working as a team by listening to and helping each other. We also appreciate when colleagues voice their opinions.

The Position

As Group Financial Controller, you will work closely with Group Finance and other cross-functional colleagues in the Svitzer headquarters and our Svitzer Regions, including sub-entities. The expected amount of travel days is 10-15 days per year.

Key Responsibilities

Specifically, the key responsibilities are:

  • Controlling and reporting: Participating in the financial controlling of Svitzer Group's monthly performance, which happens in close collaboration with colleagues in the Global Service Centre in Pune, India. Thus, you will also prepare consolidated financial analysis and provide ad-hoc insights into other financial presentations for Senior Management. Eventually, you will become one of the experts in the consolidation system (OneStream) and the Finance Manual. You could also become responsible for training/workshops relevant to the Svitzer Finance community.



  • Compliance visits, audits and anti-fraud plans: You will work closely with the Senior Group Financial Controller on planning and conducting the controlling visits to Regions. You will also co-create procedures for desktop reviews to enhance the compliance and governance framework. As a natural part of your job, you will be in contact with the external- and internal auditors. Also, you will drive the anti-fraud plans for Svitzer in close collaboration with the Head of Finance and the Compliance Officer, including responsibility for follow-up actions, i.e., in connection with possible whistleblower cases.



  • Business Partnering: You will quickly become a natural focal point for the Business by providing proactive support and guidance to the Global Finance organisation for reporting and IFRS-related matters. As ERM responsible in Svitzer, you will work closely with senior management to assess the risk updates. You will work closely with the Global Finance BPO and the Global FPA Manager on various tasks/projects, such as assisting with financial insights related to our new BI tool, ensuring governance around the systems landscape, etc. In addition, with a capacity for Business Partnering, you will become a natural focal point for the Business by providing proactive support and guidance to the Global Organisation (Commercial/Procurement/Technical departments) when new business opportunities mature as part of Svitzer's Strategy. As per the latter, support in building a robust Governance Framework for new Strategic Initiatives is needed.



Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate has all or some of the below experience:

  • You hold a relevant Masters Degree in Accounting, Auditing or Finance.

  • You have at least 2-4 years of professional experience from a similar position or have worked as a consultant or auditor for a Big 4 company.

  • You have experience with preparing consolidated financial reporting and controlling.

  • You must hold a valid Danish residence and work permit.

  • You have analytical skills, are structured, and apply logic and pragmatic thinking.

  • You are committed to delivering results and meeting deadlines in a fast-moving corporate environment where decisions are followed by prompt action.

  • You are devoted to meeting expectations from our Global Organization, and you enjoy taking ownership and responsibility and working in teams where the aim is to deliver a quality product together.

  • You are a strong communicator and team player with high personal integrity.

  • You have a positive attitude and outspoken collaboration skills.

  • You have excellent skills in Excel and PowerPoint.

  • You must be fluent in oral and written English, as this is our corporate language.
