Do you want to initiate the development of wind turbine blades in Vestas? Are you capable of motivating others to follow you on this journey and share your knowledge? Are you technically proficient at working with composites and do you understand the business impact of design choices? Then you might be the one we are looking for?

The Vestas wind turbine is created out of multiple design modules - one of them being the blades. To ensure that Vestas at all times have state-of-the-art blades to ensure maximum energy capture from the wind, we are approximately 160 Engineers that every day put our efforts into inventing, creating, and designing blades for the future. Through this process, we also ensure that we can produce the blades in our factories, transport and install them around the world. This is a fascinating and intriguing process going from the "drawing board" to an actual blade being installed on a turbine somewhere in the world. We are a very dedicated team of highly qualified engineers, and we are proud of what we do.

The very early phase of a blade design involves feasibility studies for which we use our simulation tools to predict and decide on what the next generation of wind turbine blades looks like. Consequently, to understand the different design tradeoffs and in the end, develop a product that is optimized to fit the full turbine and its value chain. For this exciting task, we are looking for a Blade Feasibility Specialist with good communication skills, business understanding and knowledge of blades or composite design.

The job will focus on evaluating new blade designs in terms of design feasibility assessment and evaluating the impact to the value chain of these designs to be able to propose the right competitive designs for our future products. You will be an important part of ensuring correct and timely communication between the feasibility team and the rest of the turbine modules.

Responsibilities
Together with the core team, it will be your responsibility to conduct trade-off studies between the different design parameters to optimise on key performance indicators. This is done by using our advanced blade simulation tools and the core knowledge of our specialists in the value chain. Further, your responsibility will include:

  • Understand the cost drivers for all stakeholders in the blade value chain and support improving cost models for better costing accuracy
  • Conduct structural feasibility studies using in-house and commercial tools (ANSYS/CATIA/Composite (V5))
  • Evaluate performance and design margins in the different design elements of the blades
  • Plan and complete work according to feasibility processes, and support the development of digitalisation of the feasibility toolbox
  • Ensure that learnings from previous products are captured and implemented in design models
  • Scout for new technology developments and changes in the market demand
  • Provide direction and clarity to the blade organisation on new product developments, and support and motivate them to take over the proposed blade designs when they are decided to be materialised.

Qualifications
On a professional level, we expect you to have:

  • A relevant engineering degree, combined with experience from a similar position and in-depth knowledge on solid mechanics, composite materials and structures
  • User experience with modelling blades. Knowledge of Catia/Composite (V5) would be an advantage
  • Good knowledge on wind turbine blade design principles and understanding of fundamental principles of blade aerodynamic design
  • Understanding of various cost elements related to a wind turbine blade
  • Knowledge of digitalisation and work experience with programming and software development
  • Ability to bridge different stakeholder needs to ensure optimal blade design
  • Good English skills, both verbally and in writing

Competencies
As this role involves knowledge sharing and supervising others, we expect you to hold the following personal competencies:

  • Good communication skills and the ability to adjust to your stakeholders' experience and competence level
  • The ability to motivate others to follow your directions, and to create dedication and commitment amongst your stakeholders
  • Change readiness; change is inevitable, and it may have a large impact on a team. The Blade feasibility Specialist will be the 'steady hand' that knows how to act on change and create a sense of security during the process
  • Good collaborating skills with an open and engaging approach
  • Remain calm in stressful situations, and have a pragmatic and structured approach to your work, with a holistic mindset and solid problem-solving skills

What we offer
We offer an exciting job with great opportunities for professional and personal development in an inspiring environment at the world's leading wind turbine manufacturer. We value initiative, passion, and the right balance between creativity and quality in all solutions. You will become part of a highly professional team, where we value that each member takes ownership of their assignments and lead them until implementation, with openness and sharing amongst the team to ensure growth and development.
