About the department

CMC Outsourcing is responsible for all outsourcing activities that support the Novo Nordisk drug development pipeline, drives all key negotiations within Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development in R&D and plays a significant role in bringing new medicinal products to the market. The activities of the department span the entire value chain, from laboratory to patient participating in clinical trials; for example, manufacturing of Drug Substance, Drug Product, raw materials and analytical services. Comprising eight experienced Outsourcing Managers and this open position, the department is responsible for executing outsourcing activities, from selecting a competent collaboration partner, negotiating the contractual framework, to management of the project until all deliverables are successfully completed.

The position

As Contract Manager and Lead Negotiator, you will develop and execute strategic negotiations with Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) worldwide and in collaboration with Legal and Outsourcing Managers. You will, together with relevant colleagues across Novo Nordisk’s R&D and Product Supply divisions, ensure that negotiations are conducted at a professional level and with the best possible result for Novo Nordisk. You will formulate a clear strategy, take the steps to achieve the negotiation objectives, ensure a mandate, proactively identify solutions to contractual challenges and ensure involvement of relevant stakeholders.

You key tasks include:

  • Ensure the optimal contractual set-up between Novo Nordisk and collaborators
  • Manage and ensure regular review of contracts
  • Ensure optimisation of contract and negotiation processes and implement and communicate them
  • Ensure creation of value and savings for Novo Nordisk, including benchmarking, surveillance of prices and implementation of value adding practices
  • Ensure collaborators are in compliance with Novo Nordisk Code of Conduct and Sourcing Standards
  • Ensure monitoring of collaborator performance

Your success will depend on your ability to demonstrate knowledge of business operations and apply this knowledge to analyses, processes and deliverables as well as your capacity to understand competitive dynamics to identify key opportunities and threats and incorporate into strategies and plans. You will get the opportunity to further develop your negotiation skills and work on a broad range of contracts with different levels of complexity. You should expect 5 -10 travel days a year.

Qualifications

You hold a legal, commercial or engineering Master’s degree and have minimum 6 years of experience with contracting, negotiating and pricing, preferably from a multinational organisation. Pharmaceutical experience is an advantage. You have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other key digital platforms. Furthermore, you are fluent in both spoken and written English.

On a personal level, you are confident navigating in complex and dynamic organizations and can manage multiple internal and external relationships at all business levels. You demonstrate an ability to manage and influence others to ensure business objectives are met. You have a strong level of analytical, quantitative, and qualitative analysis skills. You possess excellent communication – both oral and written - and interpersonal skills.
