ICARS is continuing its development and we are announcing the position of Director of Operations. We are looking for the right candidate who will head the development and daily management of ICARS' operational activities, including servicing our Board of Directors, and leading our partnership, outreach and communications efforts as well as all tasks related to financial control and HR.
About ICARS
The International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) is a young organization with a mission to develop evidence-based solutions to mitigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Working in partnership with LMICs, ICARS uses intervention and implementation research to support the countries in implementing their National Action Plans. ICARS is a self-governing organization obliged to follow many of the rules and regulations for the Danish Public Sector.

About the position
As Director of Operations you will head the Department of Operations, Partnership and Communications, with overall responsibility for ICARS' operational activities. Being a young organization, the work will be a comibation of heading the continued development as well as daily management of ICARS' operational activities. You will refer to ICARS incoming Executive Director and be part of ICARS' Executive Management working in close partnership with the Scientific Director.

The ideal candidate has a relevant degree at master level (social science or similar), and holds experience from similar positions. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to have the following qualifications and experiences:

You will be employed on an individual contract that follows the current circular of the Employee and Competence Agency on the framework agreement on contract employment
of managers in the state with salary classification according to group 1. Employment is expected to be based on a fixed-term contract.
We are based at Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark.

About the position
As Director of Operations you will head the Department of Operations, Partnership and Communications, with overall responsibility for ICARS' operational activities. Being a young organization, the work will be a comibation of heading the continued development as well as daily management of ICARS' operational activities. You will refer to ICARS incoming Executive Director and be part of ICARS' Executive Management working in close partnership with the Scientific Director.
Your main areas of responsibility will include:
- Heading the Operations, Partnership and Communications Department, including line management of currently 12 staff members with various professional backgrounds and nationalities
- Assuming responsibility for ICARS' budget and financial operations (approximately 60 MDKK in 2022 and expected to grow), including follow-up on project financial reports, donor reporting and collaboration with the auditor
- Servicing ICARS' Board of Directors and the Strategic Advisory Forum to be established
- Leading ICARS' continued organizational development aswell as the continued development of ICARS' financial and administrative set-up, including necessary policies and procedures and work related to compliance
- Heading outreach and partnership work, including international fundraising and collaboration with Danish partners and ministries
- Overseing ICARS' external and internal communications, including development of outreach material, website, intranet and social media activities
- Heading ICARS' work on Monitoring and Evaluation, including the work to develop a strong scale-up framework
- Overall responsibility for all HR-related matters, including safeguarding and whistle blower platform
Your background, professional and personal qualifications
The ideal candidate has a relevant degree at master level (social science or similar), and holds experience from similar positions. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to have the following qualifications and experiences:
- Proven experience in line management of teams consisting of highly experienced and diverse team members spanning a broad area of responsibility as is the case in this position
- Initiating and maintaining partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, holding a relevant network within the global AMR community as well as in relation to Danish partners, including relevant Danish ministries
- Knowledge and understanding of ICARS' governance structure and model of working will be considered an advantage.
Personal qualifications:
- Strong leadership skills and robust working knowledge of management best practices, including the ability to identify problems and solve them quickly and efficiently
- Strong interpersonal skills with evidence of having managed teams of highly diverse and experienced people and the ability to motivate and support staff
- Excellent organisational skills with demonstrated ability to successfully manage competing priorities
- Strategic thinker with a global perspective but also paying attention to detail
- Evidence of ability to multi-task and manage a fluctuating and at times heavy workload and short deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work across global teams
- Proficiency in English (English is our working language)
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Flexible, creative and enthusiastic with pioneer spirit
- Responsible and solution-focused
