Who are we?
The mandate of the Grants Management Unit (GMU) is to support DRC missions in efficient and effective grants management, ultimately aiming at timely and high-quality assistance to the country operations, thereby to the People of Concern. The HQ GMU provides a layer of support and oversight ensuring internal and external compliance, timely installment management ensuring overall DRC cash flow and liquidity, and document and data management through DRC Dynamics (our ERP system). The GMU comprises Grants Management Specialists covering country portfolios across the four regional offices, a Global Grants Advisor, and a Student Assistant managed by the Head of the Grants Management Unit.
About the job
The Head of Unit (HoU) has the overall leadership of the grants management function in DRC as a highly specialized technical advisor in grants management and a strategic leader supporting the implementation of the HQ Operations Department strategy. The HoU leads the development of the grants management function, best practice throughout DRC HQ and field operations and the daily management of the GMU. Furthermore, the Head of Unit promotes and facilitates grants management excellence and compliance across DRC’s regional and country offices.
Team Management and Leadership
- Inspire, manage, and lead the Grants Management Unit (GMU) and lead by living the DRC values, Core Competencies and DRC Leadership Concept.
- Accountable for the Performance and Development planning and implementation of the Grants Management Unit staff and provide career coaching sessions for the GMSs to support them in their career development.
- Ensure frequent engagement with GMU staff, and work collaboratively to foster a good work environment and staff well-being.
- Lead the Global Grants Community mobilization and development in close coordination with HR, HoPs and CDs.
- Lead the implementation of the HQ Grants Management Substitution model.
Expert Advice and Guidance, and technical support
- The Owner of the Operations Handbook – Grants Management Volume and Accountable for the implementation of it across DRC operations.
- Guide and support grants management unit on day-to-day day technical and administrative tasks.
- Reaching out to donor representatives when needed and maintaining professional communication.
- Maintain clear and up to date communications to grants colleagues locally and globally through regular HQ and global forums, a grants SharePoint site and relevant email communications.
- Raise grants and contract management risks to the relevant Senior Operations Advisor (SOA) and provide inputs in the case handling.
- Any ad-hoc tasks assigned by the Head of Operational Contracts and Grants.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to be an experienced manager able to lead and inspire a diverse team in a highly technical sphere. All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.
Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- At least 8 years of field experience from different country offices in a humanitarian/development organization - preferably in grants, program support, or program position.
- At least 4 years of experience as a manager, preferably of technical specialists, advisors or coordinators.
- Sound understanding of Grants Management, Program Management, the grants management phases, the project cycle management, and strategy development and implementation.
- Experience in planning, coordinating and leading processes that include multiple cross-disciplinary stakeholders across organisations.
- Excellent coordination, collaboration, networking, and communication skills.
- Able to work to a professional level in English.
Desirable
- Experience working with grants or financial processes in an ERP system (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Experience in facilitation, training or capacity-building design and implementation.
- Systematic and analytical approach with a high degree of attention to detail and experience in systematic problem solving.
- Able to work in Danish, French, Arabic or Spanish an added advantage.

The position is permanent and full-time
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and Lederaftalen between Dansk Arbejdsgiverforening og Lederne (agreement for managers), which can be found here: www.lederne.dk.
This is contractually a national position for which local terms and conditions apply. Our work conditions include, amongst others, a fair salary, fully employer paid pension contribution, six weeks of paid leave per year and flexible working hours.
