SBU NCE Service Regional Operation NCE Blade Engineering & Support NCE
Vestas North and Central Europe (NCE) is responsible for selling, installing and servicing windfarms in North and central Europe as well as in new markets like South Africa and Russia.
Every year the Blades team is analysing the conditions of over 20,000 Blades in Northern and Central Europe. The Blade Engineering & Support team is mainly responsible of making the assessments. These assessments are based on the yearly inspections Vestas performs while servicing the blades.
The position as Blade Specialist guides the mechanical aspects of Vestas wind turbine sales, installation, and maintenance efforts. The position is required to perform complex mechanical engineering assignments with considerable latitude for action and decisions. This role will be primarily focused on blade related issues and projects. The wind turbine blades include glass and carbon fibre construction with integrated lightning receptors.
Responsibilities
As Blade Specialist you have the technical leadership responsibility for the following three areas:
Sales Support
Construction Support
Service Support
Qualifications
To succeed with the above-mentioned responsibilities; you probably hold a master’s degree in Material or Mechanical Engineering (other degrees considered with experience) combined with 10+ years’ experience in a relevant engineering field - for instance with blades production, design or service (glass or carbon fibre design and construction). Furthermore, we favour that you have:
You must be proficient in English, written and orally (Danish and Swedish are plus)

Additional information
The primary work location will be either in Videbæk/Ringkøbing, Denmark. Alternatively in Isle of Wight, UK or Malmö, Sweden.
You must expect up to 35% of annual travel activity.

Responsibilities
As Blade Specialist you have the technical leadership responsibility for the following three areas:
Sales Support
- Understand product technology around blade construction and repair and communication with customer's engineers and consultants
- Respond to technology due diligence requests by customers, consultants, financers, etc.
- Develop and maintain region-specific technical documentation in support of functions (1) and (2)
- Provide internal failure analysis in support of commercial considerations. Provide failure forecasts for drivetrain components (affecting service contract costing)
- Present technology at conferences and generally be a regional technology expert supporting Vestas in front of potential customers
Construction Support
- Review construction Requests for Information for contractor installation modification requests
- Provide on-site and in-office support for blade damage evaluation and repair methods
- Direct communication with customers including assessment of damage from construction/transportation
Service Support
- Supervise corrective action projects to analyse and resolve failures of blades in Service
- Respond to technical inquiries from service personnel, project managers, and outside customers
- Direct studies to assess failure modes and effects (FMEA) and develop time to failure models
- Coordinate/communicate with Vestas Research & Development as required for ongoing product development and reliability projects
- Handle testing and inspection work to assist R&D with ongoing improvement testing
- Manage and support complex Component Improvement Management projects with cross-functional international teams
- Support Operations with tooling, up-tower repair, and maintenance/inspection expertise
Qualifications
To succeed with the above-mentioned responsibilities; you probably hold a master’s degree in Material or Mechanical Engineering (other degrees considered with experience) combined with 10+ years’ experience in a relevant engineering field - for instance with blades production, design or service (glass or carbon fibre design and construction). Furthermore, we favour that you have:
- 5+ years’ experience in project management and systematised problem-solving methodology (8D, DMAIC, etc.)
- Experience or good knowledge in 2-D and 3-D mechanical modelling (FEA is good as well)
- Demonstrated flexibility working in a changing organisation
- A track-record of performing in a time-sensitive setting and multi-tasking in a fast paced/ deadline-oriented environment
- Great organisational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Good at Microsoft Office products and AutoCAD/ProE
You must be proficient in English, written and orally (Danish and Swedish are plus)
