Glostrup

Are you an expert scientific programmer with strong interest in managing computational aspects of interdisciplinary research projects involving large data sets? Are you excited by working with state of the art computational methods in an international medical research environment?

In COPECARE, we aim to expand our current data team to include 3-4 data scientists with complementary skills across a range of research fields. We are therefore looking for one or two new colleagues with a background in computational research to take part in managing computational parts of interdisciplinary medical research projects combining clinical, medical imaging, genetic and serological biomarkers and registry data in rheumatology in a clinical research environment. The major projects for the data team are:

The EuroSpA project (www.eurospa.eu) is a Research Collaboration Network established in 2016 within the field of axial spondyloarthrits and psoriatic arthritis with participants from 16 European countries aiming to address research questions regarding real-world treatment of arthritis patients across Europe by pooling relevant variables from patient registries. The collaboration is currently expanding to include collection and assessment of MRI and X-rays. EuroSpA is led by an international Scientific Committee and supported by a Coordinating Centre located at COPECARE. The Coordinating Centre is staffed by a Project Lead, a project administrator and a data manager and led by 2 professors in Rheumatology. In addition, several Postdocs and PhD students are associated to the project.

The NORA project is a Nordic collaborative effort between Danish, Swedish and Norwegian academic institutions aiming to explore serological and genetic biomarkers associated with treatment effects and prognosis within rheumatoid arthritis. A fully merged dataset including a wide range of results from biomarker analyses and clinical outcome data from historic observational and clinical trial cohorts serves as a fundament for a range of explorative analyses. A statistical core team including statistical and clinical experts with representation from the three countries is currently being established.

DANBIO is a nationwide, Danish quality registry in rheumatology (danbio-online.dk). With more than 40,000 patients included and monitored prospectively, it is one of the largest in the world. DANBIO data on individual patients’ disease manifestations, treatments and outcomes over time can be enriched with other medical and socio-economic data by linkage to a large number of national administrative registries. This makes DANBIO a unique tool for surveillance of short- and long-term safety events in newly marketed drugs. A team of statistical, epidemiological and clinical experts is currently being established to solve those tasks.

The position

In collaboration with your data team colleagues and the principal investigators/clinical researchers, you will be responsible for handling of all types of data in the projects and contribute to the dataflow from the raw data are extracted to the final analyses are published in international scientific journals. Specifically, you may

  • Take part in preparation of new studies by developing data models based on study protocols
  • Receive and screen clinical data from DANBIO and the participating EuroSpA registries
  • Coordinate the receipt, control and allocation of image files to image readers in a cloud-based set-up.
  • Pool clinical and image data and prepare analytical datasets
  • Manage data on the secure servers at Statistics Denmark
  • Plan and conduct statistical analyses
  • Contribute to scientific papers and study reports
  • Communicate with international data managers, physicians, scientific programmers and IT-developers

We are looking for a candidate with

  • A Master’s or PhD degree in computer science, bioinformatics, mathematics or similar
  • Expertise in scientific programming in R
  • Experience with collating complex data and creating an overview
  • Experience in statistical analysis and data visualisation
  • Experience with reading code and collaborative software development using GIT
  • A focus on delivering high quality data and analyses
  • Familiarity with documentation of data processes
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interdisciplinary communication skills
  • Experience with management, linkage and analyses of patient registry data and administrative databases (e.g. The Danish National Patient Registry) will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of public cloud concepts and experience with Azure will be an advantage
  • Experience with analyses on genetic data will be valuable

We offer

  • An exciting position with enthusiastic and collaborative colleagues
  • A possibility to be part of a research group at the highest international level
