Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR - www.cpr.ku.dk) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, performs basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of biomedical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and resources, from in silico target identification, mass spectrometry based proteomics, structural biology, protein production and characterization to elucidation of various disease mechanisms.
The Taylor group investigates the structure and mechanism of biological molecular machines using cryo-electron microscopy combined with biochemical, biophysical and cellular techniques.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary conditions are in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The salary level will be determined based on seniority according to the AC agreement. Negotiation for salary supplement may be possible.
To this is added a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement.
The position is permanent and the working hours are 15 hours per week.
The expected start date is 1 May 2020.

Job description
We are seeking an Academic employee (FU) to:
- plan and perform laboratory work at and beyond the state-of-the-art in the areas of cloning, cell culture, recombinant expression, and protein purification of soluble and membrane proteins and complexes. Techniques used will include Gibson assembly cloning, sequence- and ligation-independent cloning and other cloning methods, CRISPR/Cas9-based bacterial genome modification, protein purification (including affinity purification, ion exchange, size exclusion chromatography), gradient-based ultracentrifugation, reconstitution of proteins into nanodiscs and proteolipsomes, bacteriophage production.
- perform negative-stain and cryo sample preparation for electron microscopy.
- undertake electron microscopic imaging of negative-stain and cryo samples.
- data processing of negative-stain and cryo-data, evaluate and report the results.
- be involved in the overall planning of the projects.
- evaluate and report experimental results and ensuring that research data and protocols are entered into an (electronic) lab notebook.
- maintain stocks, reagents, media and laboratory equipment.
- share responsibility within the team in terms of defining objectives and meet deadlines.
- participate in the general operation and maintenance of the laboratory facilities.
- carry out any other relevant duties as may reasonably be associated with the position and which may be required from time to time.
Experience and skills
Required
- BSc degree is required
- Solid and documented work experience from high quality academic and/or industrial laboratories is required.
- Proven experience in molecular biology and cell culture laboratory work.
- Experience in protein purification and characterization.
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel).
- Experience with research database systems would be considered an asset.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written. Considering that the Center is a highly international research environment, good knowledge of English is required.
- Integrity, reliability, enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility, confidence, capability to learn new methods and good collaboration skills.
- The ability to efficiently work as part of a team is essential.
Beneficial
- Experience with membrane protein purification, nanodisc and/or liposome reconstitution.
- Experience with negative stain and/or cryo-electron microscopy sample preparation.
