Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent Staff Scientist to support our efforts in organoid research to commence 1 October 2019.

The group and our research

The intestinal epithelium is a rapidly self-renewing tissue, where stem cells have been shown to play an important role during tissue replenishment. Deregulation of the natural process of tissue replenishment is associated with diseases such as cancer and ulceration, as well as regeneration following injury. We believe that molecular insights into how cells normally transition from a state characterized by tissue growth to a homeostatic state will be vital to understand, what happens at the cellular level during tissue regeneration and the development of cancer (Wong et al., 2012, Nature Cell Biology; Yui et al., 2018, Cell Stem Cell; Fordham et al., 2013, Cell Stem Cell; Guiu et al., 2019, Nature). In order to address these key questions we use a number of different techniques including in vivo fate mapping to define cellular heritage, transcriptional and epigenetic analysis at both bulk populations and single cell level to identify candidate genes regulating cell fate changes, mouse models and organoid culture systems to identify signalling pathways that control cellular identity, transplantation techniques to address cell potential, bioengineered 3D cell culture scaffold to address how the environment affects cell fate and Crispr/Cas9 mediated genetic perturbation to address the role of specific genes and mutations (Page et al., 2013, Cell Stem Cell; Fordham et al., 2013, Cell Stem Cell; Yui et al., 2018, Cell Stem Cell).
