The genetic material of the cell is constantly damaged by physical and chemical insults. If DNA lesions are not repaired properly in a timely fashion, they can lead to mutations, gene deletions, and chromosome loss, which is the underlying cause of both cancer, cellular ageing, and a number of developmental disorders. We are studying the role of the ZGRF1 helicase in DNA repair including its regulation by protein post-translational modifications (PTMs), cellular localization, protein-protein interactions and unique DNA structures that are recognized by the helicase.
The postdoc’s duties will include research to uncover the functional consequences of patient mutations in ZGRF1, characterization of a ZGRF1 mouse model and identification of small molecule inhibitors of ZGRF1 as well as opportunity to participate in teaching activities. The post may also include performance of other duties.
