Are you interested in working with one of the world’s most successful biopharmaceutical companies and with a top-ranked university? Do you want to be involved in contributing to Novo Nordisk global strategy of utilising in vitro systems for predicting drug-drug interactions for our peptide drug candidates? If so, you now have the opportunity to apply for a Postdoc project at Novo Nordisk and at the Centre for Applied Pharmacokinetic Research (CAPKR, https://www.capkr.manchester.ac.uk/), University of Manchester.
About the department
You will join the Global Discovery & Development Sciences in the Novo Nordisk R&D organisation. The position will be associated to the department of Development ADME which is responsible for the investigation and evaluation of drug-drug interactions for compounds in drug development. The experimental part of this project will primarily be conducted at CAPKR, University of Manchester under the supervision of principal investigator Dr. Aleksandra Galetin. Dr Galetin’s expertise is in mechanistic in vitro characterisation of hepatic and renal enzymes and transporters in different cell systems; PBPK/translational modelling of transporter kinetics and endogenous biomarkers for transporter-mediated drug-drug interactions (https://www.research.manchester.ac.uk/portal/aleksandra.galetin.html).
The position
Drug-drug interactions for therapeutic peptides is an evolving area with challenges regarding the optimal and relevant in vitro studies during the drug development phase. Project aims to evaluate potential drug-drug interaction risk via regulation of CYP enzymes and relevant transporters by peptide analogues. This project will give you the possibility to develop new competences and skills within in vitro cellular systems aiming to perform mechanistic evaluation of drug-drug interaction risk associated with peptide analogues. As part of the evaluation and validation of the in vitro data generated the project will aim to implement the in vitro findings with therapeutic peptide in existing PBPK models for small molecule drugs to predict drug-drug interaction risk for likely co-medications in targeted patient population (e.g., obesity). This is a two-year postdoctoral position where the employment period will start at Novo Nordisk in Copenhagen, followed by a 1+ year relocation to University of Manchester before returning to Novo Nordisk, Copenhagen.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate that holds a Ph.D. in Drug metabolism, Pharmaceutical or Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline and who has laboratory-based experience with cellular in vitro systems and quantitative drug metabolism/transporters. Strong understanding of DMPK principles is highly desirable; experience with drug-drug interaction prediction and PBPK modelling will be an advantage. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated excellent scientific productivity, evidenced by high-quality research publications. As this project is based on a close collaboration between two research groups, you should be able to spend time in both Denmark and England and be interested in building relationships between the project members. The candidate is expected to maintain expertise in scientific developments relevant to the objectives of CAPKR and University of Manchester as appropriate. English at a professional level is required.
