The Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position in ecosystem analysis at the assistant professor level with teaching in GIS and mathematical modelling (advanced levels) to begin March 2021. Application deadline: 30 December 2020.
We seek creative and ambitious applicants with exceptional records of achievement to join our department, which is comprised of an interdisciplinary academic staff with expertise in ecology, animal physiology, physiology of benthic vegetation, aquatic restoration, biogeochemistry, climate research. The candidate’s research interests/CV in ecosystem analysis should synergise with several of the main research topics mentioned above.

The following professional and personal qualifications are required:
The position includes teaching in aquatic ecology for biology students and therefore teaching experience within this field will be considered an advantage. Experience from a postdoc position including international experience is essential.
Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research time. Thus, we encourage applicants to specify periods of leave without research activities, in order to be able to subtract these periods from the span of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific productivity.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

• Copies of all publications on which the applicant wishes to be evaluated
• A brief survey of the applicant's most important research results and research plans for the next three years.

- Establish and lead their own research area
- Support and develop new master educations in “climate adaptation” and “aquatic habitat protection and restoration”
- Deliver innovative research of the highest international standard
- Publish research outcomes through a significant number of international peer-reviewed publications
- Contribute to teaching GIS, mathematical modelling and other courses at the department
- Supervise bachelor, master and PhD students
- Complete postgraduate teacher training for assistant professors at SDU
- Be granted competitive research funding from external funding bodies (the candidate is encouraged to apply for external funding that may potentially develop the possibilites of a longer research career)
- Participate in development of public outreach and/or community involvement programmes, and perform departmental and university service which is an expected and integral part of positions within our department
- Be proficient in English.

Qualifications
The following professional and personal qualifications are required:
- PhD degree or equivalent qualifications
- High track record in research and obtaining extramural funding
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision
- Experience in communication of research in a wide context
- Ability to strengthen national and international collaboration within the research area
- Proficiency in English.
