The Danish Institute for Advanced Study (D-IAS) seeks an outstanding candidate to fill a position at Assistant Professor level in the field of applied philosophy with a special focus on movement and health.

The position is sponsored by The Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics. The department is located at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense.

The assistant professor will be employed on August 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be for four years with the possibility of a subsequent two years of employment as Associate Professor.

In addition, the D-IAS fellow will be awarded DKK 500,000 per year for three years for travels, conferences, hiring and the like from D-IAS. This funding is to be spent in consultation with the D-IAS mentor and the Head of the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics.

D-IAS

D-IAS aims to inspire ground-breaking ideas through the meeting of minds across the sciences and humanities. The D-IAS engages leading academics through its visitor program, weekly lectures, and quarterly colloquia. There is a strong focus on talent development of young researchers who work on game-changing ideas. Eminent academics are appointed as chairs, and in that capacity form the backbone of the D-IAS as they catalyze activities within their field.

D-IAS offers a uniquely ambitious research environment to this particular position, and, for the successful candidate, a position where options for tenure will be discussed during a third-year review. In addition, D-IAS offers the strongest possible support in applications for further external funding from prestigious national and European funding schemes, e.g., Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and the ERC starting grants. We expect the applicants to actively engage in the development of the research unit as well as contribute to the interdisciplinary research in DIAS.

The Department of Sport Science and Clinical Biomechanics

The successful candidate will be affiliated with the research unit Movement, Culture and Society at The Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics. Movement is at the heart of the unit's research and understanding of human life. Research approaches spans philosophical analyses, qualitative methodologies and cultural analyses and the research unit holds a strong and leading international profile in integrating phenomenology and qualitative research methodologies. The candidate will be expected to engage in the interdisciplinary fields of integrating philosophical analysis and actual practices related to health and/or movement activities. We expect the candidate tosynergize with existing research activities and to actively engage in the development of the research unit. Besides the research fields of Sports Science and Movement Studies the department also houses research in Physiotherapy and Clinical Biomechanics and education of health-related professionals. The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information about salary and taxation.

Teaching obligations will be reduced, compared to a regular assistant professor position at SDU.

To qualify for the position as assistant professor you must have completed a PhD-degree by the application deadline.
