A new 4-year position as assistant professor within clinical pharmacy and/or pharmacoepidemiology is vacant at the Research Unit of Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy, and Environmental Medicine , Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

The position will run from June 1, 2022 or from the earliest possible date thereafter.

The academic position

The research areas of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy span from pharmacological epidemiology to clinical studies and cell-based basic pharmacology. The pharmacoepidemiological research group utilizes the world-class Danish registries to assess pharmacological questions in large populations. The translational pharmacology group aims to understand variability in drug toxicity, drug metabolism and drug transport. Cell-based models such as induced-pluripotent stem cells, primary human hepatocytes as well as clinical pharmacokinetic studies are utilized to understand variability in drug response and toxicity. The analytical chemistry laboratory is shared between Environmental Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy boasts three LC-MS/MS and an Orbitrap LC-MS/MS used to analyze concentrations of drugs or environmental chemicals. Collectively. The research unit has a strong background in exposure to environmental chemicals, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions and therapeutic drug monitoring and the successful applicant will master translation from laboratory research to humans.

The assistant professor will be part of the pharmacoepidemiological research group within our department. This group is led by professors Jesper Hallas and Anton Pottegård and comprises approximately 35 individuals that focus on registry-based research covering all aspect of drug use, effect, and safety. The group collaborates extensively with the rest of the department.

Areas of responsibility

As part of the pharmaco-epidemiological research group, and as an assistant professor, you will be expected to develop and maintain an area of particular interest related to pharmaco-epidemiology or clinical pharmacy within which you focus your efforts. Identifying this area and adapting it to your particular niche will be part of the position.

The position comes with teaching obligations within the pharmacy education at the University as well as supervision of bachelor projects and master projects. Additionally, we expect that you will contribute to administrative duties, e.g., participating in Study Board or other similar activities.

Fluent English (both written and spoken) will be required. You will be involved in numerous projects across the department, also outside those outlined above. As such, you will be expected to have demonstrated portfolio management skills and to be able to maintain an overview and structure several concomitant projects.

You will be expected to have a background as a pharmacist and have a documented track record for working with registry data. Further, you will be required to have a PhD degree (preferably within epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical pharmacy), or similar research experience.

Employers

Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine today has approximately 50 employees: 5 full professors, 6 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 2 postdocs, 12-15 PhD students, approximately 15 technical and administrative staff. The unit consists of three separate research groups: pharmacoepidemiology, translational pharmacology and environmental medicine. Additionally, it collaborates closely with the Department of Pharmacology at OUH. Collectively, this constitutes Denmark’s largest center for research, teaching and clinical service in pharmacology.

The research unit teaches in four educations: Medicine, Pharmacy, Chiropractor and Biomedicine. It produces approximately 100 international peer-reviewed publications per year.

Professor Kim Brøsen heads the unit and Professor Jesper Bo Nielsen heads the Department.

Management

The assistant professor will refer to research leader for the Pharmacoepidemiology group and the Head of Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Environmental Health.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
