The Department of Technology and Innovation (ITI) at University of Southern Denmark (SDU), section of Engineering Operations Management, invites to applications for an Assistant Professor position in Digital and Sustainable Ship Operations with emphasis on challenges of DK and EU maritime and offshore industry.

Job description
Successful candidates will drive internationally competitive research, collaborate in and across disciplines, work closely with industry and attract competitive external research and innovation funding. The candidates will play a key role in providing outstanding education, supervise students and develop junior research staff.

SDU expect to strengthen ongoing successful collaboration with the maritime and offshore industries going forward. The candidate is therefore expected to work with colleagues on one or more external funded research and innovation projects addressing digitalization and sustainability challenges of the DK and EU maritime and offshore industries. The candidate is also expected to contribute to development of future study offerings towards maritime and offshore industry in the future. In addition to that, the position offers the opportunity to shape our existing educational and research and innovation programs to benefit from new developments in research fields, approaches and content.

We expect
Candidates must have a relevant PhD and optionally Post Doc. experience.

Commensurate with the seniority of the position applied for, the candidates must have:

  • Documented experience with education and supervision
  • Extensive experience with industrial collaboration
  • An excellent standing in research and innovation
  • Experience from working together in ongoing and future research and innovation projects with external industrial partners
  • Willingness to take part in attracting external research and innovation funding with senior researchers from various departments at SDU
  • Industry work and project management experience will be assessed positively, particularly from within the maritime and offshore industries
  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • International and team-oriented mindset

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written

Candidates must have experience and competences in several of the following fields:

  • Ship Design, Building and Operations
  • Offshore Construction Design, Building and Operations
  • Port Operations and Maritime Logistics
  • Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering
  • Asset / Equipment Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics
  • Industry 4.0 & Digital Twin frameworks and applications
  • Sensors, IOT, AIS, Satellite Communication, Connectivity
  • Industrial Automation and Control
  • Statistics, Data Science and Machine Learning
  • Modelling and Simulation Methods
  • Virtual Reality Technologies
  • Databases, Cloud Computing and Business Intelligence
  • Software development and programming
  • Agile and Scrum Methods
  • Emission Regulation for the Maritime / Offshore Industry
  • Sustainability and Energy Efficient Shipping / Offshore Operations

Working experience from industry, also within the maritime and offshore industries will be looked positively on but is not a requirement to apply for the position.

Condition of employmentThe appointment as Assistant Professor is for an initial period of 3 years. Employment is on the terms specified in the labour market agreement in effect for SDU.  For information about working in Denmark please, follow this link.

The starting date is 1st January 2023 or as soon here after, and the job location is at Odense Denmark.
