SDU Robotics is involved in a variety of national and European projects and features a strong network of academic and industrial partners. We are a team of currently ca. 55 researchers, specialized in robot solutions involving modelling, simulation and control of advanced robot technologies (systems and services) for industrial, medical and welfare applications. We value teamwork, professional diligence, enthusiasm for robotics and the drive to adopt new skills and extended responsibilities. SDU Robotics is part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), and located at the main Campus in Odense, at the core of the Odense Robotics Cluster involving 130+ startups and established companies in robotics. The aim of the group is to solve challenging research problems derived from real-life challenges by implementing novel robot solutions. We participate in implementing the achieved results in real solutions with end users as Universal Robots, LEGO, national hospitals and Novo Nordisk.

SDU Robotics currently has open positions at the level of assistant professor in Robotics with focus on Medical or Industrial Applications. Assistant professor positions are for a 3-years employment. The starting date for the positions is as soon as possible in 2023 and will be agreed with the successful candidate.

The candidates must hold a PhD degree in robotics or similar and are supposed to have most of the qualifications below:

  • Documented experience in methods related to facilitating programming of advanced robotics tasks within medical or industrial applications.
  • Documented experience in collaborative projects with partners in health care or manufacturing industries aimed at implementing research results for real applications.
  • Experience in programming in C++ and in developing maintainable robotics software
  • Documented experience in using AI methods for robotic applications.
  • Documented experience in methods related to programming by demonstrations of robots.

The candidates are expected to participate in activities of the SDU Robotics section including current and future research projects and teaching activities. This involves for example:

  • To be able to collaborate with our experts in the further development of our core technologies.
  • To participate in the practicalities of actual research on medical or industrial applications.
  • To be deeply involved in our regular coordination and joint evolvement of research and project activities.

  • To organize, plan and conduct excellent teaching for undergraduate and graduate courses in Robot Systems Engineering enrolling approximately 160 students per year.
  • To independently supervise project courses, and BSc, MSc and PhD theses.

Furthermore, the successful candidates:

  • Have excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).
  • Are able to work well in interdisciplinary team.
  • Have the ability of working independently and have a strong sense of responsibility.

Conditions of employment
Employment as an assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level. Employment as an assistant professor is a temporary position.
