sdu Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for an assistant professor position within research and teaching area of computer vision. The position will be vacant from June 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The candidate will be integrated in the section sdu Robotics (robotics.sdu.dk), located in Odense, which is at the core of the Odense Robotics Cluster involving Universal Robots, Mobile Industrial Robots (MIR) and 120+ other companies. We are specialized in robot solutions involving modelling, estimation, control and computer vision for advanced robot systems. The group is involved in a variety of national and European projects and features a strong network of academic and industrial partners. We solve challenging research problems from real applications and implement novel robot solutions together with end users such as Universal Robots, Terma, LEGO, Danfoss, Bang & Olufsen and Novo Nordisk.

The candidate will participate in sdu Robotics’ comprehensive research and teaching activities. The position requires research experience within computer vision for robotics applications. The candidate is hence expected to have most of the following documented qualifications:

  • Precise pose estimation for robotics (e.g. bin-picking and table picking).
  • Deep learning for 3D point clouds.
  • Using synthetic data to automatically train pose estimation.
  • Integration of computer vision technologies into robotic systems.

Furthermore, the successful candidate:

  • Has excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).
  • Is able to work well in interdisciplinary team.
  • Has the ability of working independently and has a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Has experience with teaching and independently supervising project courses, and BSc and MSc thesis projects.

The main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Research in collaboration with colleagues from sdu Robotics,
  • Participation in ongoing and future research projects,
  • Teaching within robotics and computer vision,
  • Fundraising for and management of research projects.

Conditions of employment
The employment as Assistant Professor is temporally limited to 3 years.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check the links for more information on salary and taxation.

  • List of publications with most relevant publications highlighted.
  • Up to three names and emails of researchers, who can provide an informed reference letter at short notice (Reference letters and other relevant qualifications may also be included).
