Odense M

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for an assistant professor position in Computer Science. The position is part of our planned expansion of the Centre for Visual Data Science. We define the area of visual data science broadly, and a core activity in the Centre for Visual Data Science is conducting interdisciplinary research collaborations with a strong focus on data visualisation with domain experts in Humanities, Social Sciences, Linguistics, Biology or Health Sciences.

Requirements
The candidate we are looking for should
• have a PhD in Computer Science at the start of the position;
• have a strong record of research at a high international level, reflecting the academic age of the candidate;
• be able to teach and advise in Computer Science and Data Science at all levels as well as courses in related topics offered to degrees in other subjects.

The candidate should have a background in data visualisation, visual analytics, human-computer interaction, computer vision, natural language processing, computational linguistics, digital humanities and/or related areas of research. Experience in developing machine learning solutions in this research field is a plus. The candidate should also be able and willing to contribute to the interdisciplinary collaborations at the Centre for Visual Data Science.

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement: more English than Danish is used when teaching in Computer Science, and more than half of the academic staff members in Computer Science have international backgrounds. However, the primary administrative language at SDU is Danish and staff should therefore be willing to acquire Danish skills within a couple of years. New staff members are offered Danish courses by the university.

About the position
The position will involve research, teaching and student supervision, as well as completing the Lecturer Training Programme at SDU. An assistant professor will normally have a reduced teaching load compared to more senior research staff categories.

An appointment as assistant professor lasts for three years, and contingent on successful completion of the Lecturer Training Programme and a positive performance evaluation, a permanent position at associate professor level is normally opened, and the assistant professor can apply for this.

We expect the candidate to start the position between 1 August and 1 September 2023. Application deadline: 12 May 2023.

For further information, please contact Associate Professor Stefan Jänicke at [email protected].
