Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

We are looking to hire up to a highly motivated and dynamic bioinformatician or -statistician with an MSc or PhD to strengthen our analytical team. Candidates should have a degree in statistical genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning, computer science, or a related field, with experience in integrating large-scale multimodal data, and have an interest in obesity, cardiometabolic disease, and precision health. The position is a 3-year position to start June 1, 2023, or after agreement.

Background
The vision of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms underlying metabolic health and disease and apply this knowledge to new prevention and treatment strategies. Established in 2010, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower in 2017.

The Center has approximately 260 employees who work across a wide range of biomedical disciplines in a highly collaborative, international research environment. You can read more about us here: www.cbmr.ku.dk.

Our group and research
The Loos Group aims to identify the key genetic and non-genetic determinants of body weight regulation to gain insight into the deeper layers of biology that underlie obesity and metabolism. Additionally, we aim to improve prediction, prevention, and treatment through the implementation of precision health strategies. You can read more about the Loos Group.

Your job
The successful candidate will manage large-scale multimodal data, including genetics and other-omics data, trajectory and longitudinal data, medical record data, and registry data, among others. They will establish pipelines for the efficient analysis and integration of high‐density genotyping/sequencing data, high-throughput proteomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics data.

They will implement the latest software and streamline pipelines, support postdocs and PhD students in doing the same, and train others in the team with the data analysis, visualization, and interpretation of results. In addition, the candidate will contribute analyses to a range of ongoing national and international collaborations.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to projects related to [1] variant-to-function translation of genetic loci, [2] using polygenic/genetic risk scores in cardiometabolic disease, [3] subtyping cardiometabolic disease using multi-omics data, [4] determine causal relationships using Mendelian randomization, among others.

Skills and qualifications
We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic researchers who, in addition to the desired expertise stated above, have the following skills and qualifications:

  • a MSc in statistical genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning, applied statistics/mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
  • a strong computational background and experience in handling large-scale multimodal data, including genetics and other-omics data, trajectory and longitudinal data, medical record data, and registry data, among others.
  • experience in (batch) HPC environments.
  • strong skills in R and/or python.
  • an active interest in obesity, cardiometabolic disease, physical activity, lifestyle, and precision health.
  • proficient communication skills and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
