About the department
Translational Science is a department in Global Diabetes, Cardio-renal and Translational research, Novo Nordisk A/S. As part of Novo Nordisk’s new strategy within chronic diseases, this department has a focus towards all translational aspects from human target validation to biomarker identification and precision medicine hypothesis generation in support of new treatments within Diabetes, Obesity, Cardiorenal (CR) & Liver Disease (LD) areas. Currently, the department consists of 10 employees dedicated to conceive, characterise and apply translational research integrating biomarker identification and patient stratification needs into each single experimental project.
Our commitment is to build a presence within diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular, kidney and liver disease research and to build a pipeline of differentiated candidate drugs in diabetes, obesity, heart failure, atherosclerosis, chronic kidney disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.
The position
The Biomarker Expert is accountable for the translational and precision medicine strategy setup and execution in support of the Diabetes, Obesity, CR & LD portfolio. A key element of the strategy is human disease understanding, the delivery of a patient-focused portfolio and the build-up of a solid package of clinical biomarkers and patient selection strategies trough the access of clinical cohorts.
You will become the scientific and strategic driver responsible for generating biomarker data, setting up and executing patient-centric translational strategies for Diabetes, Obesity, CR & LD projects from target ID until human PoC studies and beyond. An essential part of this is implementing high quality actionable biomarker plans aiming at discovery of measurable target engagement, drug-response pharmacodynamic biomarkers and patient selection/stratification hypothesis.
In addition to this you will assume responsibility for uncovering the biology and mechanisms causing human Diabetes, Obesity, CR & LD. You will also be in charge of supporting the design, coordination and follow up of experimental medicine a/o external disease natural history studies aiming at human data generation. You will work in close collaboration with Global Drug Discovery scientists, Global Research Technology and the Translational Medicine research team to mine clinical, genomic and omics data from internal or external data collections to develop personalized healthcare strategies.

- Track-record of discovery, set-up, development and delivery of biomarkers assays for clinical and research use, for pharmacodynamic, drug-response monitoring and patient selection.
- Practical experience with multi-dimensional omics data and clinical data with the focus of discovering disease-linked biomarkers of response and disease progression.
- Sound understanding of early clinical development.
- Experience in biomarkers and precision medicine strategy implementation and deployment during the drug development process.
- Desire to impact a young and innovative portfolio of targeted programs from inception through life cycle management.
- You foster innovation by applying forward and reverse translation. The emphasis is how real-time human clinical data may directly inform new discoveries of targets or identify patients responding better to therapies.
- You are a skilled communicator with strong influencing competencies. You have a strong motivation to have an impact in the organization.
- You have experience setting up and driving scientific collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
