We are a small (but well established and profitable) company looking for a sharp and structured web front-end developer that can help to make an open-source GIS solution for telco providers production-ready in 2020.
First of all, it’s important that you are located in the Midtjylland area and can work at least 3 days a week on the project. Say, preferably no longer than one hour in train or car to our office in Horsens. We are located in the co-working space (http://alley87.dk) which is a very nice and relaxed place to work.
We're flexible, but prefer you work at least one (preferably 2) days a week onsite in our office in Horsens. At least in the start, we believe onsite work is necessary to get a good grip on the domain. Also, you will be introduced to our telco customer, also located in Midtjylland, which is a customer we collaborate closely with. You might have to work onsite at their location once a while too.
The existing code was made as part of a proof-of-concept project in 2019, and it might have to be refactored into some more suitable production code. That is, the UI framework etc. is not necessarily the stuff we’re gonna use. You gonna help decide on that.
Until now, we have mainly been focusing on the most urgent customer needs and getting the basic stuff up running. We have done quite some work getting the back-end APIs up running using GraphQL though. The back-end is currently created in C# in a microservice-ish way. We have no plan to change a lot in the back-end, but to scale up things a bit and evolve the API to the needs of the customer.
The front-end is currently using React and Mapbox for the GIS part, plus some quite simple overall framework. And honestly, we’re unsure if this is the way to go. There is going to be many different types of users, both mobile and office users, that will use the solution every single day all day long. We need to make sure we can handle that properly. This is also, where you get in.
Your main job will be to provide the customer with a good UI experience, so it’s easy for them to do their job, including that of an evolvable and stable front-end architecture (i.e. proper error handling, logging so that we know if there are issues etc.). That’s why we like a structured person. Someone that also knows how to do automated testing.
Functionality wise, you’re going to create a fibre connection editor and tools for doing traces in the network - i.e. find available conduits etc. We have worked closely together with the customer to create user storied and requirements on some of the mentioned functionality. Some we have not looked into yet. You will be involved in the analysis phase too, so you get a good grip of the domain.
The project is expected to run for many years ahead, continually evolving the solution. We were thinking half a year would be a good starting point for a contract, but it's negotiable.
Thanks for your time, and hope to hear from you!
