We are looking for a ‘Protection Capacity Building Advisor’ to join our Global Protection Unit (GPU) in the International Department, Copenhagen, Denmark for 7 months from April to October 2020 (maternity cover) with the possibility of extension.

About the job

The primary role and responsibilities of the DRC’s GPU is to support country and regional strategic, policy and operational protection programming. In this role, the GPU focuses on providing support and advice to DRC country and regional operations to ensure coherent and effective protection programming; to quality assure; and to ensure compliance with protection standards throughout the project / programme cycle for quality protection outcomes, under the following areas:

  • Strategic Protection Programme Development
  • Protection Operational Support
  • Protection Sector Development and Quality Assurance
  • Learning and capacity building
  • Policy Development and Advocacy
  • Evidence and Learning for Protection Policy and Programme

Key tasks

In collaboration with the other colleagues of the Global Protection Unit and a global network of internal and external protection counterparts, the Protection Capacity Building Advisor is expected to deliver on the following tasks during the 7-month contract period:

  1. Consolidate and finalize organisational guidance for DRC on 1) AGDM in humanitarian programmes on application of the DRC AGDM Minimum Standards (such as a tip-sheet on AGDM throughout the programme cycle for DRC Heads of Programme); and 2) DRC guidance on community-based protection and PSS respectively (for protection staff);
  2. Prepare and deliver monthly webinars related to AGDM in humanitarian response, hereunder organising and planning for participation and involvement of internal and external counterparts;
  3. Prepare and facilitate trainings and workshops on themes related to protection and protection information management;
  4. Provide technical and capacity building support to country programmes to ensure quality protection analysis, strategies, and responses are in adherence with global standards and principles, including in relation to protection information management and AGDM;
  5. Roll-out organisational AGDM capacity assessment;
  6. Ensure documentation of good practices related to implementation of the DRC AGDM Policy in DRC programmes;
  7. Contribute to DRC’s global protection advocacy priorities;
  8. Contribute to reporting on programme and project implementation under DRC’s strategic investment in SDG5 and AGDM;
  9. Contribute to protection policy development and protection input on non-protection policy;
  10. Support field recruitments and proposal development.

Experience and technical competencies

We are looking for a proactive protection professional and team player who enjoys maintaining collaboration with a global network of colleagues and partners, to bring the following to our team:

Required qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of combined field and HQ experience working in protection oversight functions in humanitarian response situations, hereunder protection information management and protection mainstreaming
  • Applied expertise with age, gender and diversity mainstreaming in humanitarian contexts
  • Documented skills in technical writing on protection topics including writing policy and advocacy papers and guidelines for practitioners
  • Applied experience facilitating policy dissemination and organisational learning processes in a global organisation
  • Solid trainer and facilitation skills and experience developing and delivering webinars, trainings and other types of learning events, hereunder designing facilitator manuals and standard operating procedures
  • Experience developing and supporting uptake and application of guidelines for practitioners
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent command of English

Desired qualifications

  • Prior experience working for DRC in a field protection function.
  • Experience working protection information management at the conceptual level.
  • Fluency in French, Spanish and/or Arabic is considered an asset

We offer

Contract length: 7 months (April – November 2020)

Location: Copenhagen - Denmark. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and the AC organization. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply, but for which international applicants are eligible to apply.
