GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER FOR PROJECTS IN OUR TUNNEL AND UNDERGROUND INFRASTRUCTURE DEPARTMENT LOCATED IN LYNGBY

In Tunnel and Underground Infrastructure Department, you will become part of COWI's Tunnel unit.
Our tunnel team of more than 100 skilled experts has a full set of world-class competencies, which in combination with local presence and experience, allow our dedicated professionals to take on the most challenging projects anywhere in the world. We are experienced in all types of tunnels and earth retaining structures needed in sectors ranging from highways, metros, railways, to stormwater, energy and power, and we cover the entire lifecycle of a project from idea, concept and design to operation and maintenance.
With recent project wins and our growing project list, we are looking for experienced geotechnical and geostructural engineers who could be part of our major on-going projects like Femern Tunnel Project linking Denmark and Germany, Svanemøllen Stormwater Tunnel in Copenhagen, Västlänken underground railway tunnel in Gothenburg and Fraser River immersed tunnel in Vancouver.
DESIGN THE FUTURE WITH A GLOBAL TEAM OF EXPERTS
In this position you will become a part of our team of engineers designing tunnels and underground structures, and deep excavations. Your primary task in is to become an effective part of a highly professional team that provides consulting, project management, and detailed engineering services on numerous deep excavation design projects.

To succeed in this position, we believe you possess strong analytical skills and have a solid understanding of geotechnical and geostructural design, as well as soil-structure interaction. In this position you will become a part of our team of engineers designing tunnels and underground structures, and deep excavations. Your primary task in is to become an effective part of a highly professional team that provides consulting, project management, and detailed engineering services on numerous deep excavation design projects.
On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for:
- Provide technical input on assigned geotechnical projects from feasibility stage through detailed design, and construction support, using geomechanical principles and their application, including some or all of the following:
- Soil mechanics and retaining wall design (e.g. diaphragm walls, sheet piles and secant piles)
- Slope stability and slope remediation
- Preparation of engineering calculations, specifications and reports and drawings required for the design, and ensuring that the design and assessments are in accordance with the project requirements, current standards, codes of practice and industry best practice
- Preparation of risk assessments
- Checking of design calculations and drawings done by other engineers
- Working within a multi-disciplinary and multicultural engineering practice with coorporation between project members from different COWI offices

To succeed in this position, we believe you possess strong analytical skills and have a solid understanding of geotechnical and geostructural design, as well as soil-structure interaction. Along with this, you are self-motivated with good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. You plan, manage and complete your projects and tasks independently.
Furthermore, you have:
- Master's degree in civil engineering or similar field with more than 3 years of experience within geotechnical design or similar
- Solid geotechnical and/or structural understanding particularly within design of geotechnical structures
- Relevant geotechnical design experience within tunnel and underground structures and/or deep excavations and retaining structures
- FEM design experience (Plaxis 2D or 3D)
- Experience with Revit or Civil 3D will be an advantage
- Possess excellent reporting and communication skills in English in both personal and written form (it is an advantage to communicate effectively in a Scandinavian language as well, as many of our projects are in the Scandinavian market)
- A great commitment, are willing to contribute in a design team and able to work independently
