Mission/Purpose of the Job (one or two sentences that sum up the reason the job is needed):



To grow the Sustainability function, to lead the delivery and implementation of the VTBA’s commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative, its safety, health, environment, and enterprise risk programs. To implement and improve the sustainability strategy in line with the business area strategy and business plans. To transform and grow the sustainability focus across the organisation delivering a range of new processes, tools and initiatives.

This role collaborates with all divisions and local entities

The position reports to a divisional president and is also a member of the Group SHEQ council.

Main Responsibilities(Give 6 to 8 main areas of work. State what is to be done –to what - the end result e.g. Develop, agree and implement detailed sales plans to increase market share in Europe):

  • Implement the sustainability strategy for each element of the sustainability function and be accountable for the delivery approach in line with the latest legislation, industry standards and best practice.
  • Define, deliver and continuously improve a range of reporting processes and tools to the organisation which ensure compliant reporting for the VTBA as well as help the organisation drive sustainability improvement projects.
  • Promote the development of new products and process that support the sustainability agenda ensuring that our carbon reduction targets are achieved in parallel with balancing the business growth opportunities, market share and driving the business plan.
  • Develop the internal and external relationships, systems, and tools to build a culture of organisational and personal responsibility for safety, climate change and business continuity so that our sustainability performance improves year on year, and we achieve the Atlas Copco group goal’s.
  • Accountable for strong operational excellence across all sustainability topics including compliant auditing, developing the reporting capability and the delivery of management information to enable the VTM to make key decisions.
  • Inspire the ongoing development of the sustainability function creating an environment where team members are motivated to excel and realise their full potential.
  • Ensure the effective management of the function including maintaining a clear structure, attract, develop, and retain the best people and encourage diversity and inclusion in line with our corporate values. Mentor and coach team members using the talent framework model as a guide.
  • Lead the integration process for the sustain function for any new acquisitions into the VTBA in accordance with the Way We Do Things.

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • Proven track record across Sustainability disciplines including Safety, Environment, Climate change – Carbon reduction, Enterprise risk management and Corporate social responsibility.
  • Degree or equivalent in an engineering or relevant scientific discipline or extensive management experience.
  • Previous experience of developing a growing and complex function, engaging all stakeholders behind sustainability related vision.
  • Evidence of implementing new / latest industry standards in relation to Sustainability.
  • Have an international mindset, are result oriented, proactive and have a positive attitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good stakeholder management skills with the ability to inspire and influence internal teams and external partners
  • Ability to work across internal functional areas in ambiguous situations
