This is an exciting opportunity for a senior leader with extensive experience within Translational Medicine (TrMed). You will be a key contributor to the future of Novo Nordisk and for people with severe chronical diseases that need our current and future medicines. You will head up an organisation of 70 skilled people and develop the areas of Translational Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology and Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology.
While Clinical Pharmacology is a mature and solid area at Novo Nordisk, TrMed is a fairly new discipline and has a key importance for our long-term strategy of having a broad and innovative product portfolio. By being a capable and visionary senior leader, you and your team will bring TrMed and precision medicine at Novo Nordisk to the next level.
About the department
With a direct report to the SVP for Novo Nordisk’s clinical development organisation (Global Development) you will head up Clinical Pharmacology and TrMed that consists of three pillars; Clinical Pharmacology, Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology and Translational Medicine. The organisation is very successful and has been established over the last couple of years and has a significant strategic impact across R&D and other EVP areas. The responsibilities of the area are characterised by being highly diverse and complex with many internal and external stakeholders.
The position
You are overall accountable for the translation, first-in-man studies and clinical pharmacology qualification of new compounds from non-clinical to clinical development across the entire Novo Nordisk portfolio and its new therapy areas.
With a passion for the patients, a visionary mindset and a present leadership style you will develop a strong and capable organisation. Together with your management team and in accordance with the Novo Nordisk Way you will create a high level of engagement and lead the team through operations, transformations and future challenges and successes to meet Novo Nordisk’s ambitious goals.
You will lead and develop your own organisation and you will also have a major impact on our business since you will be part of several boards, management teams and activities. The activities in your area and representation in the organisation are crucial for the design of early clinical drug development programmes, planning and execution of all clinical pharmacology Product Development Plan trials, and pharmacometric modelling and thus also for the submission and approval of new drugs and post-approval labelling changes. Global Development, Global Drug Discovery, Regulatory Affairs, Global Safety, and the Clinical Medical Regulatory affiliate organisation are crucially dependent on the documentation and the leadership provided by your organisation.
Furthermore, you will represent your area in interactions with external stakeholders like health authorities and scientific environments. You will make sure that Novo Nordisk is present and that we at any point of time are optimizing what we do within clinical pharmacology and TrMed.
Since most of the team is based in Copenhagen (Denmark) we expect you to spend the primary part of your time there. Global travel activity is to be expected.
Qualifications
You are a successful senior leader and have led and established teams and organisations in biotech or pharmaceutical companies and you are used to lead through others and collaborating with senior stakeholders. You are recognised as a visionary and courageous leader who has a true interest in leading and developing people as well as being frontrunner in a scientific environment.
You have led clinical development teams and taken non-clinical studies to clinical studies by collaborating across functions in R&D. In addition to experience within clinical pharmacology you have extensive experience within TrMed where you have headed up key activities. Furthermore, you are used to interact with cross-functional stakeholders, senior management, health authorities and scientific environments.
