Global Medical Affairs is part of the Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs and Global Safety (MARS) department. With our 1,000 dedicated employees, MARS is a core area within Novo Nordisk’s R&D organization, and we play a critical role in the overall product development process. A key partner within the value chain MARS shares the responsibility for securing Novo Nordisk's regulatory license to operate in all markets, for securing Novo Nordisk's scientific strategies, and for driving the dialogue with stakeholder Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), International Professional Associations and Health Care Professionals (HCPs), as well as for managing pharmacovigilance globally.
Position
As Vice President (VP) and head of Global Medical Affairs OSCD you will be responsible for building a new VP area in Global Medical Affairs within the New Therapy areas of CVD, NASH, Stem Cells and Alzheimers Disease in line with the Novo Nordisk 2020 Corporate Strategy. The new VP area will be a core team of certified and highly specialised physicians having the responsibility for setting and driving the global scientific and medical strategic direction and securing a strong scientific foundation for the OSCD portfolio.
Focus will be the establishment of a global scientific presence within Novo Nordisks newly established scientific areas of cardio-renal disease (including peripheral vascular disease) and NASH, as well as the building of two new specialized scientific areas that are non-existing today, namely Stem Cells and Neurology (AD/Parkinson). As VP GMA - OSCD you will lead all four OSCD medical affair teams, capable of driving and executing Scientific Development within their therapeutic area of expertise, both internally and externally.
In your daily work you will be required to drive strong collaboration with stakeholders inside and outside Novo Nordisk, with KOLs and HCPs on a daily basis, secure best possible scientific presence at congresses and be responsible for external global scientific advisory boards. You will be working in a multicultural and global setting and must expect extensive travelling day’s pr. year. You will be responsible for driving the generation, interpretation and communication of scientific data with the relevant stakeholders within the company and external partners.
About the department
Global Medical Affairs in Novo Nordisk is a growing area, responsible for building and delivering credible and consistent scientific communication across all development phases including our cardiovascular outcome trials, with our current portfolio in diabetes, obesity and NASH. The area consists of three VP and two senior director teams and is responsible for the scientific strategies and a major player in supporting our corporate Must Win Battles.
The organization creates value by building the scientific foundation for the next generation of products and sustain a strong scientific position of the marketed product within our portfolio.
As new scientific data becomes available the department is constantly developing and growing, so in this role you will have the opportunity to influence the development of the Medical Affairs organisation globally.
Qualification
For this position you will need to have a degree as Medical Doctor being a certified specialist within Internal Medicine and certification in one of the following specialities Cardiology/Gastroenterology/ Hepatology with special interest and research experience within e.g. obesity, CV, Liver disease, and diabetes. I addition a PhD/DMSci degree and more than 10 years of clinical experience as senior registrar and/or chief consultant is preferable.
In addition the preferred candidate will have at least 5 years of people management experience and strong leadership qualities, budget and resource planning. You have experience as a clinician and if possible as a clinical investigator in clinical research/clinical development outside or within industry environment. You show high personal integrity and a natural way of building long lasting relations.
You have strong knowledge of global and local rules and regulations governing the pharma industry. You have a solid track record of strategic thinking/planning, customer insights, being adaptable to change and commitment to cross functional collaboration. As you will be part of GMA Management, the Global Medical Affairs Forum (GMAF), and numerous boards and committees we expect you to be able to contribute at this level as well.
You have authority and are able to take calculated risk-based decisions, but at the same time, you are a team player able to engage and motivate people. We expect you to develop your talents, be able to coach you Directors and be a role model for Medical Affairs. You have a strong drive, are flexible, have excellent communication and presentation skills to engage with the key internal and external stakeholders. You are fluent in English.
