Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern

Job Description

Introduction

Join a great team responsible for all normal conducting accelerator magnet systems of CERN accelerator complex, to ensure reliable delivery of particle beams to all CERN physics programs. CERN, take part!

You will join the Normal Conducting Magnet (NCM) Section, part of the Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) Group within the Technology (TE) Department. The core of the NCM mandate is the operation, maintenance, consolidation and upgrades of the Normal Conducting Magnets and Permanent Magnets installed in the CERN accelerators complex and experimental areas. We provide CERN-wide support to feasibility studies, design, procurement and certification of new magnet along with the development and qualification of innovative solutions to improve robustness and cost effectiveness of magnets and ancillary systems for future collider projects and medical applications.

As Electromechanical Engineer in the NCM Section, you will:

  • Carry out conceptual design phase work, leading the development work needed to validate concepts up to the drafting of the conceptual design specifications and reports;
  • Supervise the operation of magnet systems;
  • Plan, organise and direct the maintenance, repair, testing and modification of magnet systems and various renovations programs;
  • Carry out the upgrade and consolidation of normal conducting magnets in close collaboration with internal clients/users and external partners/suppliers;
