My name is Jacob Ulrik, and I am the General Counsel for Svitzer. I am looking for our next Global Compliance Officer to join the legal and compliance team Svitzer. In this role you will get the opportunity to influence and shape our way of working and to have a personal impact on a global marine services business.

We are looking for an independent, team-oriented Global Compliance Officer who can collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders and prioritize effectively in a fast-moving business environment.

You will play a significant role as a valued and strategic business partner and in supporting the continuous development of Svitzer’s culture of compliance and integrity.

You will oversee the design and implementation of Svitzer’s compliance programme and provide strategic advice to help shape a challenging agenda.

You will be guiding and supporting the business on day-to-day matters, and conduct compliance training, monitoring activities and investigations.

We are a small team and from time to time this means rolling up the sleeves to support and guide the frontline business with immediate day-to-day issues, while at the same time keeping focus on the overall journey.

You will be part of the wider global Svitzer legal and compliance community. Svitzer is part of the Maersk Group, and you will also work closely with compliance colleagues and specialists across Maersk.

This role is in Copenhagen, Denmark. For the right candidate we may consider a location in one of our regional offices (Dubai, Panama, or Sydney). We work flexibly, not because there is a policy telling us to, but because it just makes good business and work/life sense and creates an engaging work environment.

Svitzer is a global business, and some travel will be required, but it can normally be planned based on your as well as the business specific needs.

Key Responsibilities

As the Global Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing, implementing, and leading the ethics and compliance program globally, including measures to drive compliance to the Code of Conduct, and other compliance-related policies
  • Acting as the trusted advisor to guide the company on compliance issues and challenges
  • Structuring, planning, and conducting ad-hoc and regular compliance risk assessments
  • Designing and implementing adequate compliance controls, processes, and other relevant initiatives
  • Anti-corruption and sanctions due diligence, oversight, and monitoring of third parties and advising the business on relevant mitigation measures
  • Monitoring business activity and recommending appropriate issue-specific and programmatic preventive and corrective actions to mitigate compliance risks
  • Planning and conducting ethics and compliance training and communication initiatives to educate and engage employees and higher-risk third parties
  • Conducting or overseeing internal investigations
  • Building and maintaining the internal and external professional networks needed to support the compliance agenda in Svitzer
  • Staying on top of relevant regulatory developments
  • Participating in external fora representing Svitzer on compliance related topics

We are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about compliance and who thrives in the sweet spot between compliance and business.

Some knowledge of the shipping industry is a definite plus. You have a proven track record and 8-10 years relevant experience with the design and implementation of compliance programs in a global business and in dealing with investigations and compliance issues.

You have a law degree at master’s level or similar academic qualifications, and bring subject matter knowledge within anti-corruption, sanctions & export controls, competition law or data privacy, but you do not need to be an expert in all the fields. You have experience approaching compliance topics from an international and multi-jurisdictional angle.

You have a structured approach to your work, and you are solution oriented with a degree of pragmatism. You enjoy learning and taking ownership for your area of responsibility. You create results by working closely with other teams and functions and you have excellent skills in project and stakeholder management. You are an independent and creative thinker and a clear and concise communicator with highly developed interpersonal skills.
