At the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, a position as academic research officer is available as soon as possible.
Who are we?
The Department of Immunology and Microbiology, University of Copenhagen, runs a core facility for flow cytometry, single cell sequencing, and an in vivo imaging (IVIS) facility https://fcsc.ku.dk/ providing services for approx. 400 users from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Science, regional hospitals, and local biotech companies, each with their different areas of specialization.
You will meet people with very different tasks to be solved on our instruments. The people using our instruments are on very different levels in their careers: students, postdocs, and faculty members doing both basic and clinical research. Each user has a very individual approach and knowledge about the technology they use, and you should be able to understand the users’ different skills.
At present, the facility has the following instruments, which can be used after appropriate training:
Fortessa 3-laser, two Fortessa 5-laser, two CytoFlexS, ARIA-II, FACSMelody, ImageStream from Luminex, 10X system, Rhapsody system from Becton Dickinson, NovaSeq6000 and MiSeq from Illumina, MSD from Meso Scale Discovery, Seahorse from Agilent technology and in vivo imaging equipment (IVIS) from PerkinElmer.
On some of our instruments, the users can work with BSL2 and GMO2 material.
Work assignments:
The work assignments in the core facility are:
Much of the daily work is done independently as to how the assignments are performed, planning the tasks together with the users that request our help, and solving problems that suddenly emerge and need to be handled.
We are looking for:
Persons without documented knowledge of sequencing will not be taken into consideration.
You will be part of our team that includes two full-time staff members and its leader, Professor Jan Pravsgaard Christensen. The team plans the daily tasks together, and we expect you to be part of this team.
The facility is constantly expanding or changing, so we can offer new instruments and protocols. We expect that you will take part in this development work, which requires testing, optimization, and validation of new protocols in agreement with the daily leader.
Qualifications:
Education as Master of Science or equivalent education, preferably supplemented with a PhD. You have documented experience in sequencing. Your approach to the position should be service of users, their experiments, and development of the facility - not your individual research. Thus, you need to be extrovert and service-oriented and able to work independently and meticulously.
We offer:
Terms of salary and employment:
The employment as academic research officer is a full-time position (37 hours per week), and the starting date is as soon as possible. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
