DanChurchAid/DCA (“Folkekirkens Nødhjælp”) is looking for an Impact Business Developer with a passion for linking the development sector with innovative financing models that deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on specialist that will lead DCA’s business development from concept pitch to project acceleration through new impact business and financing models. S/he will have experience in business development and innovative financing, social entrepreneurship, stakeholder management, strategic thinking and conceptualization, a proven track record from developing a targeted approach to leading winning concepts, and strong interpersonal skills.

Following DCA’s solid experience with private sector partnerships and innovation work, and scoping of more strategic engagement in impact business and innovative financing models, including impact investments, this resource will support the development of DCA’s financing opportunities, tools and concepts in this field. The advisor will scope and develop impact business opportunities and innovative financing models for DCA, both in our international work (Africa, Asia, Middle East) and in Denmark through our direct engagement with consumers (e.g. in our Wefood and second hand stores). As such, DCA is uniquely positioned to develop integrated solutions that deliver on the SDGs, especially 2, 12 and 13 – linking smallholders with consumers – through partnership models, responsible business, and local engagements.

The work will be carried out in close collaboration with HQ units (including innovation advisor, programme advisors, and global fundraising advisors), DCA country offices, and partners. The advisor will be engaged in relevant networks, as part of DCA’s broad alliance work and advocacy to advance SDG financing models, and manage relations with relevant stakeholders.

The advisor will report to the Head of the Private Sector Engagement (PSE) Unit, which forms part of the General Secretariat in DCA’s headquarter. The PSE unit works across all departments in the organization and is focal point for DCA’s strategic engagement and partnerships with private sector in Denmark and DCA countries.

Specifically, the impact business developer will deliver the following:
  • Scoping, conceptualization and development of an impact business and new financing project pipeline, mapping, and idea catalogue for replicable models;
  • Develop internal guidance, templates and decision matrix for the assessment of impact business and innovative financing opportunities for selected DCA initiatives in Denmark and country offices;
  • Contribute to further develop DCA’s direction on impact business and alternative financing, based on proven cases and scalable models;
  • Development of 3 – 4 concepts a year, based on existing pipeline or new initiatives, at DCA HQ or Country Office level, that adapts DCA, partner or multi-stakeholder activities from grants-based financing to innovative impact financing or blended financing models;
  • 3 – 4 training workshops, including follow up, virtually or in-country, for DCA staff and partners focused on innovative financing and new business models, covering DCA’s activities both in Denmark and internationally;
  • Maintain and develop stakeholder relations as technical focal point, and engage in relevant networks and working groups concerning new SDG and impact financing instruments;
  • Technical support and hands-on guidance to HQ and country offices, responding to emerging opportunities in the impact business and innovative financing fields, on an ad hoc basis.

Duty travels between 3-6 weeks a year.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in business management, finance, economics, or other relevant specialization;
  • 5-10 years of experience from working with business development, innovative financing for development, e.g. impact investing and/or blended finance;
  • Understanding of or experience from working in the development and humanitarian sector (experience from agri tech, value chains, climate resilience an advantage);
  • Track record of designing and facilitating the process from concept pitch to project acceleration and financing;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing business plans and investor/donor pitches and concepts, from the social or corporate sectors;
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in an intercultural and interdisplicinary environment
  • The ability to lead processes, self-motivate, and collaborate in functional teams
  • Demonstrated self-reliant problem-solver with strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral skills, budgeting proficiency
