We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Scientist with significant expertise in preclinical studies in rodents to join the Rare Disease Pharmacology department with expected start May 1st, 2023, or soon thereafter. Come and join us! The position You will be part of a dedicated in vivo pharmacology team in the Rare Disease Research area within Global Drug Discovery. You will implement disease models to study lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) and establish relevant phenotypical tests. You will also design, execute, and report high-quality in vivo studies within LSDs and other rare disease areas. You will be involved in collaborative efforts to deliver in vivo support across the Rare Disease portfolio. You will interpret and report data for discussion in project groups and with internal / external stakeholders, provide input on in vitro/in vivo as well as preclinical/clinical translation, and support multidisciplinary drug discovery teams in Novo Nordisk. The successful candidate will participate hands-on in implementation of novel techniques in the laboratory. You will explore and characterise pharmacological efficacy of innovative candidate molecules within a broad spectrum of therapeutic modalities. You are expected to collaborate with other areas in Novo Nordisk, including our RNA and Gene Therapies teams and colleagues at our global research sites, as well as with external contractors and collaborators. Qualifications You hold a PhD and an MSc or equivalent within biological or biomedical science, veterinary medicine, medicine, human physiology or another relevant field. You have experience working with animals in a biotech- or industry setting and have a keen interest in that line of work. You are required to hold a FELASA accredited certificate corresponding to Laboratory Animal Science Function A/B/D (previously designated category C) according to the EU Directive 2010/63/EU Article 23.2. In addition, the candidates are expected to have: Experience conducting animal pharmacology studies for research, including statistical design of experiments and statistical analysis of data, administration of test compounds etc. Experience working with pharmacology Contract Research Organizations would be a plus Experience with designing preclinical pharmacokinetic studies to support efficacy- and safety studies etc. Understanding of immunocytochemical-, histochemical- and immunohistochemical methods, including immunofluorescence assays for ex vivo analysis, such as image cytometry Insights in pathology of lysosomal storage disorders including endo-lysosomal function, cellular lipid metabolism, and neurodegeneration Experience with one or more lysosomal storage disorder and relevant disease models including clinical observation and examination, motor coordination and balance tests such as rotarod, gait analysis, and limb clasping test Experience with project work within the pharmaceutical industry and value chain understanding, e.g., via work experience beyond research In addition, excellent communication skills with a focus on scientific quality and thorough documentation. Proficiency in both spoken and written English is essential; skills in Danish or another Scandinavian language would be an advantage. On a personal level, you have good organizational skills, pay attention to details, and manage time well, enabling efficiency and independence. You are highly motivated, a good team player, and interact effectively with internal as well as external colleagues fostering a collaborative workplace environment. About the department Rare Disease Pharmacology is one of three departments in the Rare Disease Research area, an expanding new area where currently 45 scientists and technicians are investigating novel concepts and drug candidates to improve treatment for patients living with rare blood- or rare endocrine disease. In Rare Disease Pharmacology, we are deeply involved in discovery and characterisation of innovative drug candidates by in vivo and ex vivo studies, liaising with other areas of Novo Nordisk and also engaging with external experts.
