Måløv
Do you want to be part of our pioneering journey to change the way we use mathematical modelling to guide drug discovery and development? Are you an experienced scientist with advanced mathematical modelling skills and a strong understanding of complex dynamical systems (e.g., Systems Biology/Pharmacology)? Then apply today and join our modelling department (Discovery PKPD & QSP modelling) in a permanent position within the Novo Nordisk Research and Early Development organization.
The position
In this position you will combine your expertise within modeling and simulation to cutting edge pharmacology in frontier areas of medical need. This entails efficient collaboration and communication with subject matter experts. You will work in an expanding team, which collectively will drive the implementation of mathematical modelling (QSP) and liaise with scientists across the Research & Development organization. In addition, you will be involved in a variety of projects and therapeutic areas incorporating QSP.
Some of your main tasks will include:
• Being able to interact with biological and pharmacological subject matter experts.
• Grasping the current knowledge gaps and outstanding questions and converting the relevant biology and question into a mathematical formulation that can be addressed with modeling and simulation.
• Working in interdisciplinary teams, with a focus to support and integrate in vitro and in vivo pharmacology data into current or new QSP models to describe the dynamic interactions between drug(s) and biological systems. The models will inform and support drug discovery, development and regulatory interactions.
• Mentoring colleagues within the department and ensuring high quality QSP modelling approaches and expert knowledge within the QSP field.
• Expanding internal modelling capabilities, as well as collaborating with external partners.
We value diversity! So, no matter whether you have modelled climate/weather, rocket science, biological networks or other natural processes we would like to hear from you!
We are interested in applications from both experienced and less experienced scientists. Leveling will be according to actual skills and experience.
Qualifications
You hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Math, Engineering or other disciplines related to quantitative biology/pharmacology or have equivalent experience with a strong emphasis on modelling and simulation of dynamical systems. You have excellent understanding of theory, principles and statistical aspects of advanced mathematical modelling and simulation and the ability to turn these tools into actionable insights. Levelling of the position will be according to actual skills and experience. To succeed in the role, you have:
• Experience in modelling biological and/or other natural processes using mechanistic and/or a combination of mechanistic & empirical models
• Expertise in Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) and understanding of pharmacokinetics and modelling software (i.e., Phoenix WinNonlin/NLME or equivalent) with Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetics (PBPK) software
• Programming skills with modelling or analytical software (e.g., Matlab/SimBiology, Python, R)
• Expertise with ODEs, ABMs, optimization, empirical approaches (statistics, ML)
• Experience managing external service providers
As a person, you are keen to learn new skills and able to communicate with experts of other areas. You have ability to effectively interact with colleagues with a variety of backgrounds.
In addition, you have excellent written and oral communication skills in English. About the department
Our newly established Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) department is growing to support a wide range of diseases from diabetes and obesity over hemophilia to growth disorders and a range of rare diseases. The models we develop and apply help to understand resistance mechanisms, support drug discovery, optimize dose & schedule selection and combination therapy and much more.
The department is anchored within Global Drug Discovery (GDD) in Research & Early Development (R&ED). The area supports the discovery and development portfolio with pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) evaluations using a variety of modelling and simulation tools. Mechanistic modelling (QSP) is an important part of our capabilities.
You will have highly skilled and dedicated colleagues supporting projects from early discovery, through non-clinical development, as well as early clinical development. In our daily work, we have close collaboration with all parts of the global Discovery and Development organisation, research project teams as well as external collaborators.
