As a Specialist / Principal Scientist in Translational Research, you will be discovering and qualifying new biomarkers using human iPSC-derived cells to de-risk early clinical programs. The role offers exciting scientific opportunities, a significant level of autonomy, and the chance to work closely with peers throughout the entire translational value chain. Drive experimental biomarker discovery and qualification efforts using human iPSC-derived cells Implement hIPSC-based model systems to profile Target Engagement (TE)-, Proof-of-Mechanism (PoM)- and disease modulation biomarkers Foster close-knit collaboration with computational biologists / therapy area experts and leverage the disease biology knowledge to deliver qualified biomarkers in translational project teams Mentor, train and develop junior colleagues while providing strong guidance and expertise in iPSC biology and biomarker discovery Map scientific and technology gaps in the area and lead strategic collaborations /partnerships to complement internal biomarker discovery and qualification efforts
Qualifications You hold a Ph.D. in Life Sciences with 5 - 8 years of research experience in human iPSC-based biomarker discovery within metabolic diseases or related fields, part of the expertise derived from drug discovery experience in pharma, biotech, or academia. Alternatively, you come with a Master’s in Life Sciences combined with 9 - 12 years of research experience in the field as described above. To thrive and succeed in the role, you have: Demonstrated expertise in utilizing human iPSCs for biomarker discovery & qualification within cardiometabolic space Hands-on-experience in the maintenance, manipulation, and differentiation of hiPSCs towards cell types relevant for cardio-metabolic diseases Experience in high throughput screening using nucleic acid sequencing-based technologies such as RNA-sequencing (bulk, single-cell, and spatial), DNA methylation and Olink Flair for data analysis and integration, including proficiency in R packages, AI tools, gene-set/ pathway analysis and data visualization software Ability to work with large biological datasets such as transcriptomics and proteomics as well as extract and integrate information from external databases / published literature (e.g., HPA, GTEX, Tabula Sapiens) As a person, you exhibit a strong translational mindset, exceptional networking skills, a proactive approach, and outstanding communication abilities. About The Department At the Biomarker Discovery & Qualification department, we discover and qualify TE, PoM and disease modulation biomarkers. We employ human in vitro / ex vivo systems and in vivo animal models as well as apply omics technologies to generate high-quality biomarker data to guide decision-making in research and early development. Currently, the department consists of 9 scientists and is part of the Translational Research VP area. Other departments in Translational Research include Biomarker Assay Development, Omics Technologies and Translational Imaging. Translational Research is part of Global Translation, an organisational area responsible for the application of translational approaches across all the therapy areas in Novo Nordisk. Our ambitious goal is to ensure early, data-driven decision-making in clinical trials by application of target engagement, proof-of-mechanism, and disease modulation biomarkers as well as enabling precision medicine. Global Translation is part of Novo Nordisk´s Research & Early Development and is located in Måløv, Greater Copenhagen.
