Declaration of interest regarding PhD project
Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, the research unit for Active Living, invites applicants for a PhD fellowship within implementation science focusing on Children’s well-being and healthy weight development. The project is part of the research program: Generation Healthy Kids, which is financed by the Novo Nordisk Foundation
Start date is 15 November 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. Fluency in Danish is required.
The program
The overall aim of the Generation Healthy Kids (GHK) Intervention Program is to promote healthy weight and wellbeing in school-aged children (6-11 years, 1st to 3rd grade). The program combines a randomized controlled trial targeting several important risk factors for excessive weight gain with systems approaches. Co-creation processes is merged with systems thinking to take the complexity of childhood into account and support long-term sustainability of the developed program. GHK will contain intervention components on balanced diet, physical activity, healthy sleep and screen media use. There will be a strong focus on empowering involved children and families and at the same time reduce obesogenic risk factors in the environment, together with capacity building at community levels.
Specifically, this PhD project will assess program-level aspects with a focus on factors impacting implementation effectiveness and sustainability. Organizational and wider contextual perspectives (e.g., organizational readiness for change; stakeholder behavior and attributes; leadership engagement; significant inner and outer settings) are key methodological and theoretical starting points.
We are looking for
Candidates within the fields of physical activity, implementation, organization studies, public health and/or health promotion. Applicants can have a background from sport and exercise science, organizational or implementation science, public health science or health promotion studies. Experience with and knowledge about mixed-methods research will be needed. Fluency in Danish is required.

The Generation Healthy Kids program consist of six work packages created and lead by a group of senior researchers from SDU, SIF, CKFF and KU. This PhD project is part of WP 1 which, together with WP 5, among other things focuses on process and program dimensions of GHK. The entire research team is committed to the overall ambition of the program.
The PhD student will be employed at the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark and be part of the Active Living research unit: https://www.SDU.dk/en/activeliving.

- A short (no more than three pages) outline of a potential PhD project focusing on organizational dimensions related to the implementation of the Generation Healthy Kids Program. The outline should include a preliminary specification of research aims together with argumentations for the relevance, theoretical and methodological approaches of the proposed project. Furthermore, an overall timeline for the entire project period must be provided.
