The Embassies of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Scandinavia are looking for an experienced Business Development Officer for Scandinavia
Job environment
The Business Development Officer Scandinavia (hereafter: BDO), is going to work for the Netherlands in a diverse, interesting and challenging setting and region. (S)he will be part of a team which focuses on promoting Dutch exports to the region, long-term business development and strategic investments in the region. In addition, the team strives for innovative partnerships between the Netherlands and the region, which are ultimately aimed at strengthening economic growth and prosperity. It focusses on cross-border projects and the identification of leads in specific sectors like Infrastructure/Construction and Life Sciences and Health.
The BDO will work under the supervision of the expatriate Regional Business Developer (RBD) based in Copenhagen. The employee will be based in Gothenburg, given its location with respect to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, as well as the economic importance of that city in southern Sweden. For administrative purposes and duties he/she will be linked to the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Stockholm.

The BDO acquires information on various sectors and themes in all three countries and on relevant foreseen activities which could be considered as ‘breeding grounds’ for business development and knowledge cooperation between the Scandinavian countries and The Netherlands. The BDO is also expected to set up, maintain and extend the local networks in the region in close collaboration with the embassy network. Therefore (s)he will participate in regular telcons and videoconferences and other meetings with the RBD-team and the economic staff of the three embassies.

Salary: Comparable to similar positions and depending on experience

Specific responsibilities:
- Contributing to the goals of the RBD-team as formulated in the Regional Business Plan 2020-2024 and in a broader sense to the goals of Dutch economic diplomacy for all three countries.
- Analysis and identification of markets, sectors, themes and business opportunities, relevant for Dutch business (companies and research institutes).
- Developing structural strategic initiatives which contribute to the goals of the Regional Business Development Plan 2020-2024 (programmatic approach).
- Taking the lead in finding new business opportunities and transforming general business opportunities into project proposals, activities and access to financial sources.
- Drawing up and carrying out (project) plans for activities for Dutch companies and research institutes.
- Setting up and managing networks.
- Communication about Dutch expertise and business opportunities in Scandinavia and using social media for branding and communication of the business opportunities.
- Follow up on incoming queries in relation to his/her projects.
- Structural and up to date administration of projects and business leads.
Job requirements:
- University graduate, preferably masters level (engineering or business administration).
- At least five years of experience in international business development.
- Knowledge of the aforementioned sectors, local markets, new developments and trends.
- Knowledge of local business, business-organizations, research institutes and relevant government bodies and the various links between them.
- Knowledge of the local rules and regulations relevant for Dutch businesses.
- Good networks in Denmark, Norway and Sweden/Gothenburg.
- Proven affinity and relevant experience in commercial work, market analyses and project planning and –management.
- Talent for organising commercially relevant events, including programmes for visiting delegations.
- Fluent in English and/or Dutch (written and spoken). Knowledge of one of the Scandinavian languages is a requirement as well.
- Skilled in all relevant IT use: MS Office, Sharepoint, CRM-systems, and social media (Linkedin, FB, Twitter).
- Competences: Strong communication skills, enterprising mentality, adaptability/flexible, collaboration oriented, organizational sensitivity, team player, multitasker, punctual.
