Århus C

The Department of Management at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 1-year Research Assistant position, with no teaching obligations, offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project on Commitment and Corruption.

The starting date is 1st of October 2021 or subject to mutual agreement.

The research project
The project is funded by AUFF and aims to advance our understanding on the role of commitment on motivating and justifying corruption. When we are committed to specific people or groups, we create bonds which lead us to neglect other people or groups. In this sense, commitments can lead to ingroup favouritism. Also, when we are committed to specific people, groups, or norms, we generate obligations that we would not otherwise have – i.e., to act in that person’s interest. These obligations provide reasons to justify actions which we may not otherwise take to be justified. In this sense, commitments can activate local norms that are in conflict with global norms. The aforementioned research questions will be tested in a series of lab, online, and field experimental studies.
The project is expected to contribute to the fields of psychology and management and will be under the supervision of Panos Mitkidis (Aarhus U & Duke U).

Job description
We are looking for a self-motivated, highly active, and productive researcher. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the overall objectives of the project by being involved in all phases of the project, including formulating research questions, experimental designs, analyses, writing articles, and assisting the other researchers of the project. The position is research-oriented.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold an MA, preferably within one or more of the following areas: Psychology, Behavioral Economics, or another relevant field.
Other requirements, which would be advantageous but not required, include:
  • Publication experience in relevant areas
  • Experience with designing, preregistering, analysing, and reporting experimental or survey research
  • Experience with cross-cultural studies, consumer panel surveys, lab experiments, and the combination of these (multi-methods studies)
  • Knowledge and expertise in one or many of the following areas: psychology, behavioural economics, and judgment and decision making
  • Excellent research skills, including advanced statistical and methodological knowledge (experience with programming of experiments, statistical methods such as individual models of preferences or models of decision-making processes, and programming skills in R)
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, with a certified proficiency
  • Motivation to work independently as well as cooperatively in an international team
