The Department of Engineering (ENG) of Aarhus University (AU) is looking for several innovative and visionary tenure track Assistant Professors or Associate Professors in Civil and Structural Engineering. Within the last two years, eight new faculty researchers have been recruited to our Civil Engineering section, and we are now looking to further expand, based on our ambitious strategic investment in a five-year recruitment plan to place the university in direct competition with the global engineering elite. Therefore, Aarhus University is seeking researchers driven with vision, innovations, and technologies for the future, to join and expand our existing research environment in Civil Engineering.

The positions are available from 1 December 2019 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Several positions are available within the field, and positions are available in all relevant disciplines of civil and structural engineering, including but not limited to: Structural dynamics and control, Experimental dynamics and monitoring, Building materials, Timber structures, Soil-structure interaction, Structural mechanics, Risk and resilience, and Construction management. Preference will be given to applicants that can demonstrate a strong and innovative research and teaching track record within traditional disciplines or within cross-disciplinary topics that will lead to the establishment of new world-class research groups at AU. Moreover, we are looking for applicants to teach research-based courses and projects in our Danish undergraduate programme. In addition, our graduate program is fully international and all teaching is in English. Likewise, English is the official language of the department and faculty. The positions will be anchored in the Department’s Civil and Architectural Engineering section.

Successful candidates are expected to work closely with other researchers/groups within the section and the department as well as with external stakeholders. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary team is essential. Successful candidates must also have a PhD in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related cross-disciplinary field. The candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. All positions are research positions where it is expected that the candidate is capable in competing for external funding. Further expectations for the various levels of appointment are:

Assistant Professor (tenure track): Candidates must demonstrate potential for outstanding research and teaching. Some years of post-graduate research and publication experience is required. Experience from successful external research collaborations with industry and academia, project management skills, and experience in attraction of external funding is preferred.

Associate Professor: Candidates must have an outstanding record of research accomplishment, an established record of external funding, and concomitant strong evidence of emerging leadership in their field.

For both levels, commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including existing courses and development of new courses, is expected.
