About the department

The position is in the department Cultivation Pilot Plants and part of CMC API Pilots. CMC API Pilots is a part of the R&D organisation, that manufactures and controls new drug substance candidates for the development portfolio at Novo Nordisk.

Cultivation Pilot Plants is a department that cultivates and purifies proteins and peptides, under GMP, for use in clinical and non-clinical trials. The department consists of two separate production facilities with four production lines as well as two cell bank facilities. You will join approx. 80 colleagues working in different teams (cultivation, recovery, support and cell bank teams). In the department we are working with various technologies and equipment dependant on whether the platform is yeast, E. coli or mammalian cells and how the recovery process is designed (i.e. homogenisation, centrifugation, filtration, chromatography etc.).

The department is located in Bagsværd, Copenhagen, Denmark.

The job

As we support the API production, your main responsibility will be to plan, scale and execute recovery processes and secure a process of high quality in terms of yield, and robustness. You will work with LEAN and use this insight to ensure and continuously improve stable operations in the production of API for clinical and non-clinical trials. The main focus in this position will be process steps related to recovery. In particular, you will:

  • proactively plan, coordinate, complete and evaluate on scientific activities including preparation of protocols and reports as well as preparation and maintenance of development documentation according to GMP
  • use your scientific knowledge to troubleshoot and identify optimization initiatives that can contribute to a continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes
  • Participate in cross-functional project groups and professional scientific collaboration forums

Qualifications

We expect that you have Master or a PHD within chemical/biochemical engineering, Pharmacy or similar and you can be newly educated or have some years of experience within protein chemistry and one or more of the following: purification, filtration, chromatography. Perhaps you have already used your competencies to solve various practical challenges with industrial protein recovery processes. It is an advantage if you are experienced with GMP and if you have a flair and a keen interest for equipment and control systems.
