Research Scientist for Product and Process Development agile team family, Solid Products Development & Innovation, Novonesis
Join us as our new Research Scientist
Are you eager to try out your talent and ambitions developing innovative products and processes in Novonesis’ largest formulation pilot plant?
In Product and Process development we have the responsibility to make the products and processes for our worldwide production sites. You will be in a cross-functional agile team (with members of fermentation, recovery, and formulation) with a primary focus to create new biosolutions that excite our customers. Your role will be to develop and scale-up new solid enzyme/protein products and processes to production scale, assisted by product/process models and other digital tools that you will build. To succeed you will combine insights of digitalization, enzymes/proteins, and powder processes (e.g. granulation, spray drying, fluid bed processing), and together with your agile team you will select the optimal solutions both for customer value and product quality. You will be in direct contact with our colleagues in marketing, production, pilot plants, application, and other R&D departments in Novonesis as well as external customers. You will drive results on your own and together with other highly skilled scientists and pilot/lab technicians.

We are part of Formulation Development, where we are responsible for development of enzyme and other protein products and production processes, upscaling of new products and technologies, as well as supporting and improving our existing product range. In SPDI, we are a team of 15 highly engaged, multicultural scientists, with a passion for enzyme formulation, solids processing, and product innovation. We cooperate with many of Novonesis’ functions locally and internationally.

In this role you’ll make an impact by:
- Developing and optimizing solid formulations and processes with focus on quality, stability, and optimal format for the final commercial products
- Improving the way we work by driving digital transformation in the department, developing product/process models and other tools, such as Python-based apps
- Working independently as well as taking the responsibility as project leader and as a team player, contributing to a high performing cross-functional Agile Team
- Supporting customers, doing production troubleshooting, and scaling up to our global production plants
To succeed you must:
- Have a MSc degree in chemical or biochemical engineering, preferentially combined with a PhD
- Have experience with first-principles or mechanistic modelling and data-driven decision making and be familiar with a programming language such as Python/Matlab/R
- Be independent with strong personal drive, while enjoying collaboration and communication with different stakeholders
- Have experience within solids processing, e.g. spray drying, fluid bed processing, granulation or similar process technologies is an advantage
- Enjoy project management and taking a role as project leader
- Have experience with planning and executing experiments and enjoy day to day collaboration with highly skilled pilot and laboratory technicians
