Are you ready to take on an expert role within modelling & simulation?

At LEO Pharma we have several innovative research projects in the early pipeline and therefore we are recruiting an expert within preclinical PK/PD, modelling & simulation. With your experience in developing and implementing mathematical PK/PD models you will play a major role in our projects by delivering a strong understanding of quantitative relationships between drug exposure, target engagement and downstream biomarker changes from early target selection to candidate drug selection and in back-translation from clinical studies. You will have strong collaboration across the R&D organization working together towards our vision of becoming the preferred dermatology care partner improving people’s lives around the world.

Your role

You will join a team of experienced and skilled DMPK and PK/PD scientists and you will directly impact the plans of our research projects with your strong scientific background and by enabling timely progression based on data-driven decisions.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Design preclinical PK/PD studies, establish quantitative relationships between drug exposure, target engagement and downstream biomarker changes leading to a prediction of human therapeutic exposure/dose
  • Build and implement tailormade mathematical models of biological systems using PK/PD or PBPK software (Phoenix WinNonlin/NMLE, NONMEM, R, MATLAB etc.)
  • Evaluate new targets from a PK/PD perspective based on integration of all available data sources in a quantitative manner
  • Contribute to implementing and continuously developing the preclinical and translational PK/PD strategy in drug discovery projects from target validation to drug candidate selection
  • Work with clinical pharmacologists and other bioscientists to ensure forward and back-translation of PK and PK/PD models in the projects

You are furthermore expected to provide scientific guidance and mentorship within your area of expertise, and to work collaboratively within DMPK as well as cross-functionally with other disciplines.

Your competencies

You have a Ph.D. within pharmaceutics, pharmacology, engineering, or other relevant field backed by minimum 5 years of hands-on experience from academia or pharmaceutical industry that has provided you with an in-depth expertise in preclinical PK/PD modelling and simulation.

The ideal candidate has the qualifications below and experience from a similar role, however you may also be a less experienced talent who is ready to take on a new challenge.

  • Experience in building and implementing mathematical PK/PD models and human dose projections in an early drug discovery setting (small molecules, biopharmaceuticals, or other modalities)
  • Hands-on expertise in PK/PD software such as Phoenix WinNonlin/NMLE, NONMEM, R, MATLAB etc.
  • Strong physiological and pharmacological understanding to facilitate collaborations with other functions
  • Experience with or interest in PBPK modelling software such as SimCYP or Gastro+

To succeed, you must have scientific curiosity and you are not afraid of learning new. Your structured way of working enables you to deliver in high quality within agreed deadlines, and your good communication skills enables you to interact with colleagues across the organization.

DMPK - your new department

You will join 13 research DMPK colleagues, based at LEO’s headquarters in Ballerup, Greater Copenhagen. The role is ideally based in Denmark, however for the right candidate we will consider remote work (EU based). We are responsible for DMPK, PK/PD as well as Bioanalysis from the early idea phase to candidate selection and are expanding our capabilities from small molecules into new modalities. We share an ambitious scientific agenda to deliver innovative solutions that will benefit patients all over the world. Our work environment is characterised by an informal and helpful atmosphere.
