Ballerup

Are you a protein interaction and characterization expert who is looking for a job with impact, exciting scientific challenges, and the opportunity to take active part in exploration of potential drug targets and screening for future drug compounds? Then this may just be the job for you!
LEO Pharma has set the ambitious goal to be pioneering in dermatology and become the world’s preferred dermatology care partner. As a scientist in Proteins & Assays team within LEO Research and Early Development, you will play a crucial role in a key strategic initiative of expanding our protein competencies and strengthening our platform for hit identification in early discovery projects.

About you
You have a proven track record of working with protein-protein and/or protein-small molecule interactions, and you are also competent in evaluating the structure and quality of proteins to be used in such studies. As a scientist you are curious by nature and tackle scientific challenges with a positive and constructive can-do-attitude. You are an excellent collaborator and communicator, and you thrive in a setting with multiple internal and external collaboration partners. You thrive at working on the interface between disease biology and protein technology, where your technical and analytical expertise complements efforts to realize new treatment strategies against unmet medical needs.
Ideal qualifications include:

  • PhD in biophysics, biochemistry or a related field, with preferably 2+ years of postdoctoral experience in academia or industry
  • Strong knowledge in analyzing protein-protein and/or protein-small molecule interactions, using methods such as SPR, TR-FRET, TSA, NMR, MST, BLI or other is needed
  • Knowledge in protein monomer/complex structure determination (e.g. using X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM) and/or computational modeling is preferred
  • Experience in protein QC (e.g. using chromatography, TSA, DLS, SDS-PAGE, or other) is a plus.

Proteins & Assays, your new team
You will join our Protein & Assays team, consisting of 7 dedicated and highly skilled technicians and scientists. A key responsibility for our team is to enable drug discovery activities and support ongoing projects with protein expertise. Specific tasks include designing and running assays sensitive to protein–protein and protein–small molecule interactions (e.g. using SPR, TSA and TR-FRET), coordinating protein engineering and production activities as well as evaluating end-product quality (e.g. using TSA, chromatography or DLS). In collaboration with our internal and external partners, we drive our internal drug discovery platform by implementing various types of compound library screens. Furthermore, we participate in the evaluation and ranking of relevant disease pathways, as well as suggesting potential ways of targeting them.
Our team is characterized by an open and collaborative working atmosphere, and we work in close collaboration with our colleagues within Medicinal Chemistry and our external partners. We see knowledge sharing and helpfulness as being key to our joint success in the team, and we strive to collaborate effectively across the organization.

Your new role
As our talented new protein scientist, you will:

  • Establish, optimize and run biophysical and interaction assays using SPR, TSA and TR-FRET in close collaboration with technicians, and analyze and report the results
  • Leverage your structural expertise to suggest protein engineering, production and screening strategies to help modulate relevant disease pathways
  • Work in collaboration with external partners regarding protein design, production and QC, as well as their use for compound library screening and hit validation
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies for biophysical characterization, library screening and structure determination

Furthermore, you possess:

  • Ability to learn quickly and to apply your new skills to solve scientific questions
  • Good interdisciplinary team working skills and the ability to inspire and motivate, with a goal oriented and flexible mind-set
  • Desire and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines and with external partners
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English
