Research on eating disorders is a highly prioritized research area of the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark. We have a strong commitment to perform research at the highest international level with the aim of providing new insights into what causes eating disorders and better treatments for patients.

The position The position is fully funded for 6 years by a Novo Nordisk Foundation grant to Prof Micali.

As senior researcher in the Eating Disorders Research Unit you will support Prof Micali in leading a large grant and related workpackages, and will supervise junior colleagues (PhD students, research assistants).

You will join a dynamic, growing lab/team and will work closely with Prof Micali in:

  • strategic planning of research projects
  • project implementation and design
  • furth project development

You will benefit from an existing large network of collaborations both within Denmark and abroad.

About the Eating Disorders Research Unit The Eating Disorders Research Unit has recently expanded, with a new head (Prof Nadia Micali) and a new portfolio of grants, with the plan to broaden the existing research, to include epidemiological, genetic, neuroimaging, and clinical intervention studies, across all feeding and eating disorders and to further integrate different methods of biological research.

The Eating Disorders Research unit is currently comprised of 6 staff members (administrator, senior researcher, research nurse, research coordinators). Three new members will join in the next month. The unit has several international collaborations with the UK, US, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland.

The unit is a part of the Eating Disorders Section. Since 2017, treatment of all adult patients with Eating Disorders in the Capital region has been located at Mental Health Centre Ballerup, and around one thousand patients are referred for treatment each year, making it one of the largest clinics for Eating Disorders in Europe

Qualifications You have a PhD in psychology, psychiatric epidemiology, or statistical genetics applied to psychiatry and are highly motivated to drive and pursue research in eating disorders.

Experience in designing and carrying out research in eating disorders is required, and skills in at least one research field amongst: neuropsychology, neuroimaging, genetics, epidemiology.

Important qualifications:

  • You must demonstrate original academic production in the field of eating disorders or a related field, as evidenced by peer reviewed publications in English
  • Experience in applying for grants/funding.
  • Proven skills in effective project management and co-ordination.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Participation in international networks and collaboration with researchers and key institutions within eating disorders is an advantage.
  • Experience in academic supervision is considered important.

Conditions The position as senior researcher is open for appointment from 1 December 2022. The position will be between 50-100% depending on candidate availability and seniority.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisations.

The position is a fixed-term academic position for two years with an extension to a maximum of six years.

Non-Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark in the last 10 years.

About the Mental Health Center Ballerup Mental Health Center Ballerup is a part of Copenhagen University Hospital and one of nine departments, that provide treatment for mental disorders in the Capital Region of Denmark. The department consists of ten inpatient wards comprising 157 beds, nine outpatient clinics with several specialized functions and three research groups. We employ around 90 medical doctors and 80 psychologists in addition to nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and technical and administrative staff.
