The Research Unit of General Practice , Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for a position as clinical professor in the field of general practice.

The position will be located in Esbjerg, Denmark.

Research profile and tasks

The main task for the new professor will be to establish research and education of medical students in the field of general practice. The successful candidate must be an authorized and clinically experienced specialist in Family Medicine, hold a strong publication record demonstrating research collaboration with researchers in other fields of clinical health care and have experience in teaching and supervision.

The position will be located at the Research Unit of General Practice in Esbjerg. The unit in Esbjerg will be a part of the Research Unit of General practice, SDU and the clinical professor will refer to the head of the Research Unit of General Practice, SDU in Odense. Collaboration with clinical researchers at Sydvestjysk Sygehus and anchoring of research projects in Esbjerg will be expected. The candidate will be expected to work parttime clinically in general practice.

Research qualifications

The successful candidate must hold an MD and a PhD or equivalent in medicine, and must present a strong publication record.

Teaching commitments

The teaching commitments will include most medical fields with immediate relevance to general practice, and the successful applicant will be responsible for curriculum development, teaching, and examination of medical students. The candidate will also be expected to mentor, supervise, and support graduate and PhD students, pursuing their Master’s or PhD degrees.

Teaching qualifications

The candidate will be expected to possess teaching qualifications corresponding to those obtained as an associate professor including relevant and documented pedagogical training.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their own assessment by the university. Applications may be shortlisted.

• A motivation letter
• A detailed CV
• Degree certificates (i.e. PhD- or DMSc-diploma)
• A complete and numbered list of publications
• 10 scientific peer-reviewed publications considered by the applicant to be the most important for this position. Please notice that one pdf.- or docx.-file must be attached for each publication.
• A teaching portfolio detailing the candidate’s prior teaching experience, teaching skills, and teaching philosophy
• A research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.

Candidates may start from September 2021or as soon as possible thereafter.

Incomplete applications with regard to the above-mentioned requirements will not be assessed.

Applications may be shortlisted.

Danish is not required initially but is expected to be mastered within the first two years of employment. In cooperation with the language centre “Lærdansk”, the University offers specialised language courses.
