The Department of Sociology, Environmental and Business Economics of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is accepting applications for one – or two positions as associate professor in Climate and/or Resource or Ecological Economics to join the Management and Economics of Resources and the Environment (MERE) group. The position is located at the campus in Esbjerg. The starting date of the position is August 1st, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The candidate should have interests that complement the research group. The research group profile is available at this website. The focus of the MERE group puts specific emphasis on economic uses of the interlinked biosphere and biophysical systems as well as risk analysis and management. There is a significant marine and maritime focus to the group.
We are looking for candidates within the following fields
To support the existing group’s interests and skills, candidates should have demonstrable ability in bio-economic modelling, econometric and quantitative analysis of climate, sustainability, or risk management challenges, life cycle analysis, supply chain management, systems modeling, and/or new methods for analyzing big data.
We expect applicants to assist in the development of an extramurally funded and inter- /trans- disciplinary research program focused on developing new understandings of applied economics and/or risk management for sustainable transitions. This will include assisting in building collaborative relationships with local, regional, national and/or international partners.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach in the department’s programs in Environmental and Resource Management (MSc), Risk management (MSc), and Business Economics (BSc). The Business Economics program includes an Energy Management line. The ability to teach and network in Danish language is a strong advantage and language acquisition will be supported by the department and Esbjerg Kommune.
While the research group mainly consists of economists, the research is often placed in multidisciplinary academic and international environments. Research and teaching activities should strengthen societal engagement in solutions to problems of sustainable development. SDU is actively working to broaden inter- and transdisciplinary research. In this context, researchers in the MERE group are active participants with leadership roles in Clusters within the Department of Business and Social Science, and the Blue SDU and SDG Collab networks at the university level, and the University of the Arctic and Willis Research Network worldwide that work to foster research connections. They also participate and lead in several EU Consortiums and broader networks.
The assessment committee evaluates the applications based on the scholarly qualification guidelines of the department.
The Department provides a competitive salary, modern facilities for research and teaching, as well as resources for research assistants and for travel and conference participation. The successful applicant will enjoy the benefits of working in an inspiring and open research environment. We expect applicants to be present regularly and approx. 3 days pr. week.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

Documented experience with research leadership Research and publication plan for the next (for instance) 3 years References All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the committee will assess whether you are qualified to be an Associate Professor.
The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. The appointments committee will manage and complete the job interviews, should such be conducted. Additionally, the appointments committee determines which candidate will be offered the position.
Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.
Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.
