Professor in Sustainability Transitions

The Department of Sociology, Environmental and Business Economics of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is accepting applications for a Full Professor in Sustainability Transitions to join the Management and Economics of Resources and the Environment (MERE) group. The candidate should have interests that complement the research group. The research group profile is available at this website. The focus of the MERE group puts specific emphasis on economic uses of the interlinked biosphere and biophysical systems as well as risk analysis and management. There is a significant marine and maritime focus to the group and food systems transition.

Job description

The applicant should have made significant contributions to interdisciplinary research pertaining to sustainability transitions. They should demonstrate the ability to publish original research of high quality. Research foci that bridge connections between stakeholders and decision-makers for food systems transitions, and sustainable marine and coastal resources are welcome. We are particularly interested in research that supports stakeholders at all levels of society to engage in futuring processes, to initiate living labs, and develop roadmaps for sustainability transitions that are situated, systemically impactful and sustainable.

The applicant must demonstrate previous experience in developing new curricula. Experience managing curricula is advantageous. The candidate should have strong interdisciplinary skills and an interest and ability to teach in the department’s programs in Environmental and Resource Management (MSc), Risk management (MSc), and Business Economics (BSc). Supervision of PhD students and teaching PhD courses are expected tasks.

We expect the successful candidate to have a strong record in securing extramurally funded and inter- /trans- disciplinary research projects. This will include assisting in building collaborative relationships and networks with local, regional, national and/or international partners. As senior scholar, the candidate is expected to contribute actively to the social and academic lives at the Department, as well as participate in the guidance of doctoral students and junior faculty. Also, we expect active and constructive participation in the university's academic administration. To fulfill the requirements of the position, the candidates chosen are expected to be physically present on a regular basis.

While the research group mainly consists of economists, the research is often placed in multidisciplinary academic and international environments. Research and teaching activities should strengthen societal engagement in solutions to problems of sustainable development. SDU is actively working to broaden inter- and trans- disciplinary research. In this context, researchers in the MERE group are active participants with leadership roles in Clusters within the Department of Business and Social Science, and the Blue SDU and SDG Collab networks at the university level, and the University of the Arctic and Willis Research Network worldwide, that work to foster research connections. They also participate and lead in several EU Consortiums and broader networks.
